LINCOLN, Calif. –Oregon Tech (0-2) suffered a 10
th inning walk-off loss Sunday at William Jessup (2-0) to conclude the short two game series. A walk-off double from Joseph Luevano in the bottom of the 10th sent the Warriors home with a 6-5 victor at McBean Stadium.
"Jesse Dunham and Dylan Grogan competed well on the mound and put us in position to win. We learned a lot this weekend about our guys and we have a chance to be real good," said head coach
Jacob Garsez. "We just need to stay the course and trust in our process. I am excited to get back to practice and prepare for next weekend."
For the second day in row, Tech got off to a good start, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second highlighted by a Dalton Daily double.
WJU made it a 2-1 game with a run in the bottom of the frame on a pair of hits.
After Kaleb Keelean led off the third getting hit by a pitch; sophomore Alex Malcolm drove him home with a hard hit double to right-center giving the Owls a 3-1 lead.
The Warriors put up three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead on a pair of singles and a double. They added to the lead with a run in the 6
th to lead 5-3.
The Owls tied the game at five with two runs in the 8
th on a Keelean single and a Mitchel Swanson 2-run double that also scored Malcolm.
The game would stay tied until the Warriors won it in the 10
th.
Malcolm and Swanson led OIT with two-hits each in the loss that saw them get outhit for the game 12-7.
Dunham had five strikeouts in his Hustlin' Owl debut, spreading out 8-hits over 5-innings.
Next up, Oregon Tech will be on the road to take on the College of Idaho for a four-game series starting on February 5 in Caldwell, Id. The Owls will then start CCC play at Lewis-Clark State on February 27 & 28. Tech isn't scheduled to have a home game until March 13 and 14 against College of Idaho.
