CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following nine CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period Oct. 4-10, 2021.
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
Oregon Tech’s Kaylin Talonen was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Talonen, a junior outside hitter from Reno, Nev., helped the Owls post a 3-0 week, with a clean sweep for the season over Southern Oregon University for the first time in 16 years. Talonen had 43 kills over the three matches and hit for a combined .305 hitting percentage to lead the Owl offense. She averaged 3.31 kills per set and also had nine digs and one block defensively.
Women’s Volleyball - Defender
Southern Oregon University’s Kadyn Jones was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Jones, a senior defensive specialist from Troutdale, Ore., helped the Raiders go 2-1 on the week after averaging 4.77 digs per set. She has reached double figures in digs in nine straight matches and totaled six of her 22 against LC State during the tiebreaker set. Jones also had 10 service aces and nine assists over the week.
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Oregon Tech’s Courtney Isom was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week.
Isom, a junior setter from Brownsville, Ore., helped fuel the Owl offense that went 3-0 on the week. She had 92 assists, five aces, 7 kills and 27 digs as the setter leading the charge for the Owls. Isom finished the week averaging 7.67 assists per set, as well as 2.25 digs per set.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
No. 20-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kara Gooderham was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Gooderham, a junior midfielder from La Grande, Ore., played in all 90 minutes in the Mountaineers’ 3-0 victory over Rocky Mountain College. Helped the EOU defense limit the Battlin' Bears to just two shots on goal.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Corban University’s Juliana Pires was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Pires, a junior midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was an integral part of Corban's two wins this weekend. She tallied two goals, including the game winner in the Warriors’ 2-1 victory over Northwest University, and an assist. Pires also scored in the 4-1 win over The Evergreen State College and finished the weekend with five shots on goal.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
The Evergreen State College’s Gavin McLeroy was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
McLeroy, a senior defender from Bonney Lake, Wash., was instrumental in helping the Geoducks grab two victories over the weekend. Helping anchor the Geoduck backline, McLeroy was making stops before the offense was even able to take a shot. He helped TESC grab its first victory since 2014 over Corban, who was receiving votes in the NAIA poll. McLeroy and the Geoduck defense limited the Warriors to five shots on goal and six shots on goal for Bushnell University.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Oregon Tech’s Jake Mitchell was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Mitchell, a junior midfielder/forward from Temecula, Calif., had a hand in half of the Hustlin’ Owls’ 10 goals over the weekend. He scored three goals and assisted two others to help OIT move into first place in the CCC standings. Mitchell scored a goal in Oregon Tech’s 3-0 win over Carroll College and then scored twice and had two assists in the Owls’ 7-0 victory over Walla Walla University.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
College of Idaho’s Logan Hunt was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time this year.
Hunt, a sophomore from Athol, Idaho, set a new C of I school record in the 7K with a time of 21 minutes, 29 seconds at the Steve Reeder Invite. Despite running at 4,500-feet of elevation, he was the top collegiate finisher and helped the Coyotes win the team title, upsetting NCAA Division I Utah State.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
Corban University’s Nick Torry was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Torry, a senior from Comox, British Columbia, Canada, took fourth at the Multnomah University Invite out of 30 golfers. He posted a three-round score of 219 (77-69-73).
