Corban Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Coastal Collegiate Classic

GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore. – The Corban University men's golf team hosted the three-day Coastal Collegiate Classic this week, placing fourth in the event. In total, four Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) institutions traveled to the Salishan Golf Links to compete in the non-conference tournament, competing in one 18-hole round each day. The Navy and Gold tallied 996 strokes as a team at the challenging course.

"We played the best we could on a tough course these past three days," said head coach Charlie Marshall. "We overcame some health and weather obstacles that tested our mental fortitude."

Oregon Tech took the team title at the event, persisting through a hailstorm on day one and inclement weather on Tuesday.

The Warriors showed grit and determination of their own, competing through a number of obstacles this week.

"We're extremely proud, as always, of how our student-athletes represent Jesus, Corban, and themselves," added Marshall, speaking on the team's character and composition.

Fresh off being named the CCC Men's Golfer of the Week last week, Nick Torry turned in another gritty effort. Battling through intense sickness on day one, Torry still managed to sign a 74 (+2) to kick-start the tournament, adding a round-two 82 (+10) and round-three 82 (+10) to finish at 11th overall on the leaderboard.

After shooting an 84 (+12) on Sunday, McKinnley Rez turned in an exceptional effort in his second round, notching the second-lowest score of any performer on Monday with a 73 (+1). That matched his previous career-low round, and combined with his 82 (+10) in round three, he ended the event at 12th individually, right behind Torry.

Jacob Christensen (81, 86, 79) entered the clubhouse with a 36-over 246 and Riley White (86, 90, 89) ended with a 55-over 265 to round out Corban's four counting scores, with Max McDonough's round-two disqualification voiding his tournament results.

In addition, Corban's Blue Team—consisting of Dante Scott, Aaron Buechley, Calvin McDonough, and Troy Flanagan—competed this week. McDonough (85, 79, 86) signed a 40-over 250, Scott notched a three-round score of 43-over 253 (82, 90, 81), Buechley shot rounds of 82 (+10), 93 (+21), and 84 (+12), and Flanagan finished at 90-over 300 (96, 107, 97).

Corban will compete in one more tournament this fall, rounding out its 2021 slate at the Bushnell Fall Invite on October 17-18.
