ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Oregon Tech women's basketball team stormed into Rocklin on Friday afternoon, knocking off previously undefeated William Jessup (2-1), 81-51 in the Warriors home tournament. OIT (1-0) was led by Melissa Lee (#31 Pictured) who had a career day, scoring her career-high in the first half alone.
"It was a solid performance at both ends of the floor from the Lady Owls," said head coach
Scott Meredith. "We established our inside game early on and we pushed tempo throughout the game. I think the biggest factor was our defense that disrupted Jessup all afternoon. To hold a quality team like them to just 51 points is quite an accomplishment. Melissa Lee was phenomenal in her ability to get to the rim resulting in a well earned double-double. While Abby got everyone involved as her 13 assists showed. This was a great team effort and looking forward to tomorrows contest."
Tech got off to a hot start building a 20-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
The Lady Owls worked the ball well into the lower post areas, ultimately out-matching the size that Jessup tried to counter with.
In the second stanza, the strategy was much of the same, as Tech worked it down low and amassed a 41-30 halftime lead.
At the break, Oregon Tech was shooting 57% from the field and Melissa Lee already had a career-high 19 points.
In the second half, the Owls kept their foot on the gas.
Abby Kreiser was dropping dimes for Tech, as she racked up 13 assists, and Tech blew the game open.
The Lady Owls would ultimately cruise to an 81-51 win, shooting 59% from the floor on the night.
Melissa Lee led all scorers, racking up a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Kreiser finished with a double-double as well, racking up 12 points and 13 assists.
Maddyson Tull ended up adding 11 to round out the top scorers.
Oregon Tech (1-0) will return to action tomorrow when they face The California Maritime Academy (0-0) at 4pm, in game 2 of the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic.
