KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southern Oregon University’s Carol Melo was named the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week, announced Tuesday morning by the national office.
Melo, a sophomore from Miguel Alves, Piauí, Brazil, transformed into a brick wall over the weekend for the Raider volleyball team in triumphs at Warner Pacific and Multnomah. In Friday's four-set win, she exploded for a season-high 10 blocks. And in Saturday's sweep, she went for nine more. Her efforts helped the Raiders hold WPU to a .120 attacking average and MU to a .118 clip. Melo added seven kills over the two matches.
SOU looks to build on its two-match winning streak with a mid-week matchup against Oregon Tech on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
