NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the sixth time in his career, College of Idaho cross country and track coach Austin Basterrechea was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, as the USTFCCCA announced their 2021 Regional Coaches of the Year awards.
Each of the five regions - Great Lakes, Midwest, South, South Central and West - honored top track and field athletes and head coaches both genders - with Basterrechea winning the women's West Region award for the second-straight year.
It marks the fourth-straight honor for the Coyote head man – having swept the women's cross country, indoor track and outdoor track regional awards in 2020-21.
Basterrechea led the Yotes to their third-straight Cascade Conference championship and heads into the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships ranked No. 6 in the nation. He is one of the finalists for the USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year.
