EUGENE, Ore. – No. 19-ranked and top-seeded Oregon Tech used a pair of goals each from Mehana Ortiz and Maddie Miller to defeat the No. 3 Seed College of Idaho 4-1 Friday afternoon and win the 2021 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank.
The victory for Tech is their 12
th win a row as the Owls improve to 17-2 on the year heading into the NAIA National Tournament. The Coyotes, who are receiving votes in the latest poll, drop to 14-6, but also will play in the national tournament after securing the second automatic qualifier from the CCC.
Having already won the regular-season title, Oregon Tech had the opportunity to make it a clean sweep and Tech seized the moment.
The College of Idaho held Tech’s attack at bay in the first half, allowing just four shots as the two teams went into halftime in a scoreless draw. But that wouldn't last long.
The Owls caught fire in the second half, grabbing four goals as Ortiz and Miller both bagged a brace. The goals for Miller brought her goal total to seven, while Ortiz's goal total rose to 12.
After the second-half onslaught, Tech finished the match holding a 12-to-6 shot advantage. The Owls will look to carry momentum into the national tournament, set to begin on Nov. 18 with the opening round.
