ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warrior women earned a spot in the record book with a dominating performance on Saturday night to wrap up the William Jessup Thanksgiving Tournament. LC State opened the flood gates against Pacific Union College (Calif.) for a 113-39 victory; the fourth-most points scored by an LC women’s team in a single game and most since 2004. Every Warrior in the game scored and grabbed a rebound.
“It’s pretty obvious by the score that we played really well,” Head Coach Brian Orr said. “Our defense made them take tough shots and we forced a lot of turnovers which led to transition points. Offensively, we got off to a quick start and really never slowed down. We had a balanced attack both inside and outside and kept the ball moving. It was great to see everyone score and a great way to end the tournament.”
Maddie Holm and Heidi Sellmann each notched a double-double, and multiple Warriors had career-highs in the contest. The Warriors made 45 field goals to tie for sixth in the single-game category in the record book.
Holm and Sellmann combined for the first 17 LC State points, including three 3-pointers and 13 total points from Holm, to give LC a 17-5 lead by 3:36 in the first quarter. Callie Stevens kept up the momentum with a 3 of her own to cap the 15-point run.
A layup by Mataya Green sparked another LC run, fueled by a triple by Stevens and capped by a jumper by Adyson Clabby for seven straight LC points.
Holm was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in the first frame, including 3-for-3 from 3, to help give the Warriors a 27-7 cushion heading into the second quarter.
Green continued the scoring run into the new quarter, and Audrey Miller made it a 31-7 lead by 8:43. A triple by Madeline Weaver put the Warriors in full control as Rachel Schroeder, Green and Sara Muehlhausen all contributed to extend the run to 20 straight points for the Warriors. LC led 42-7 by the 5:45 mark.
LC held PUC off the board until 5:29, then started another scoring run with a layup and a 3-pointer by Ellie Sander in the final four minutes of the half. Clabby capped the run at seven with the Warriors ahead 49-9 before closing out the half with a 51-14 advantage.
Holm continued her impressive run with a 3-pointer to open the third quarter to make it a 40-point game. Muehlhausen and Sellmann each scored within a minute before Stevens drained two on a trip to the free throw line to bring the score to 60-17 at 7:24.
Nine straight buckets by Muehlhausen, Stevens, Hannah Broyles, Sander and Holm fed into a run of 18 that brought the third frame to a close with the Warriors in front 80-23.
Weaver and Stevens capped the scoring streak at 24 with back-to-back triples to bring the advantage to 86-23 at 8:41, and Miller began a new stretch with a jumper at 7:36. A 3 my Weaver made it six LC points in a row to make it a 92-25 advantage as the Warriors continued to cruise.
A 3-pointer by Schroeder pushed LC State past the century mark, 102-30, midway through the frame. The triple was part of a seven-point stretch all scored by the junior. Sellmann added four on back-to-back baskets after grabbing a pair of offensive rebounds.
The Warriors put the game away with a final score of 113-39.
Holm led all scorers with a career-best 22 points to go with 10 boards. She was 9-for-11 from the field, 4-for-4 from 3 and had three steals. Sellmann scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Clabby led the team with six assists and Green blocked two shots.
The Warriors allowed just seven points in the first and second quarters and nine in the third. They shot 54.2 percent from the field and held the Pioneers to 24.1 percent. LC outrebounded PUC 50-25 and forced 26 turnovers.
