CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following nine CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period Nov. 1-7, 2021.
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
No. 7-ranked Corban University’s Avari Ridgway was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Ridgway, a junior outside hitter from McMinnville, Ore., tallied 28 kills, averaging 4.67 kills per set, in six sets on the week. On Friday, Ridgway (17 kills, .667 attack percentage) accounted for more than a third of Corban's 45 kills to lift the Warriors 3-0 over Walla Walla University. Ridgway finished conference play as the leader in hitting percentage with .311 on the regular season.
Women’s Volleyball - Defender
No. 12-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Jet Taylor was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Taylor, a senior middle from Rigby, Idaho, led the front row of the EOU defense with nine blocks on the weekend, with seven coming against Northwest University. She averaged 1.50 blocks per set and added eight kills in two wins, also hitting .333 for the weekend.
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Northwest University’s Anna Saelens was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week for the second time this year.
Saelens, a senior setter from Puyallup, Wash., helped the Eagles grab a do-or-die victory to end the season and earn a spot in the CCC Volleyball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. She finished the week averaging 9.33 assists and 2.17 digs per set. Saelens also had three blocks and three kills on the week.
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 14-ranked College of Idaho’s Logan Hunt was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the fourth time this year.
Hunt, a sophomore from Athol, Idaho, became just the third C of I men's runner to win the CCC individual title, blitzing a stellar field by 11 seconds to earn the victory and help the Yotes to the team title. He was the only runner to break the 25-minute mark on the high-elevation (4,100 feet) course, crossing the 8K finish line in 24:52.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 9-ranked College of Idaho’s Ellyse Tingelstad was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this year.
Tingelstad, a sophomore from Joseph, Ore., claimed the individual title at the CCC Championship, helping C of I to its third-straight team title. She earned an eight-second victory on the high altitude (4,100-feet) course, crossing the 5K finish line with a time of 19:06.
Women’s Basketball – Player
Lewis-Clark State College’s Sara Muehlhausen was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Muehlhausen, a junior forward from Hayden, Idaho, had a strong season debut and helped the Warriors win a back-and-forth battle against NCAA DIII Whitman on Tuesday. She led LC with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Muehlhausen filled the stat sheet with five assists, two blocks, and was 7-for-11 from the field.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Phillip Malatare was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Malatare, a junior guard from Arelee, Mont., scored an EOU career-high 29 points to lead the Mountaineers over Whitman College. He played 32 minutes and missed just three shots, going 11-14 from the floor. Malatare did not miss a single free throw (6-for-6) and grabbed six boards to lead Mountaineers to their third win of the season.
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 3-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Sienna Ramirez was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
Ramirez, a senior 155-pounder from Lakewood, Wash., is the top-ranked wrestler at 155 pounds and opened the season undefeated. She went 6-0 with a Mountaineer Open title and two wins over No. 5-ranked Dempsi Talkington in the season-opening weekend. Ramirez had two pins, two tech falls and two decisions over the weekend.
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
Southern Oregon University’s Pancho Barrera was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Barrera, a senior 125-pound grappler from Ontario, Ore., ranks 13
th in the NAIA in the 125-pound weight class and helped the Raiders defeat No. 19 Eastern Oregon in a season-opening dual. The next day he won a Mountaineer Open title, going 4-0 with three pins and a major decision on the weekend.
