CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following four CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period Dec. 13-19, 2021.
Women’s Basketball – Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Sailor Liefke was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Liefke, a junior guard from Sunnyside, Wash., guided EOU to a 2-0 weekend, including a thrilling 72-70 win over previously unbeaten LC State. She averaged 15.5 points per game and shot 40.7-perecent from the floor. Liefke put up 16 points and grabbed five boards against LC State and followed with a 15-point performance against Walla Walla University in 19 minutes of action.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Multnomah University’s Tyrese Taylor was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Taylor, a sophomore from Copperas Cove, Texas, gave the Lions a huge presence in the paint in their two CCC wins this week. Taylor averaged 28.5 points and 11 rebounds per game, including posting a career-high 30 points in MU’s 97-85 victory over The Evergreen State College. Taylor’s play in the post gave the Lions their first ever four-game winning streak in the CCC.
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 3-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Emily Se was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
Se, a junior wrestler from Sacramento, Calif., won her first tournament title of the season after wrestling up a weight class (136 pounds) at the Women's West Coast Invitational. The No. 3-ranked 130-pound grappler did it with three pins in four matches and finished off 16th-ranked Louisa Schwab of Menlo in 4:51 in the final.
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
(RV) Vanguard University’s Ricky Padilla was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Padilla, a senior 165-pounder from Azusa, Calif., took the bronze in his weight class at the Reno Tournament of Champions. The eighth-ranked wrestler won four of his five bouts overall, including a victory in the opener against No. 7-ranked Rysan Leong of Menlo. Padilla also defeated American's Breon Philfer (8-0) and Oregon State's Graham Gambrall (9-0) before losing by pin to another Beaver, Matt Olguin. In the third-place match, Padilla recovered to take a 5-2 win by decision.
