VanLoo was six of 14 from the field.

SMU got out to a 17-9 lead before Grace Hammond hit back-to-back three-pointers to make it a 17-15 contest with 3:31 remaining in the opening quarter. The hosts closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run.

NU trailed 54-31 at the half.

"Though the score did not indicate it, we made some real Improvement tonight," said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. I thought we did a good job in the post play and improved on our defense as the game went along. We keep learning, and we look forward to getting back on the court tomorrow afternoon against the same team."

Shelaine Lorenz made her first start of the season, scoring seven points and leading the Eagles with three assists.

St. Martin's and Northwest finish the two-game set with a 3 p.m. contest Saturday.
