Northwest Spoils Coyotes Final Home Game, 2-1
CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest University scored a pair of goals in the 71st minute to erase a College of Idaho lead, as the Eagles topped the Coyotes, 2-1, at windy Simplot Stadium.
After the Yotes (0-2) controlled the majority of the first 60 minutes, NU struck on a counter attack, as Elliot Misic made a long run down the left side and found Benjamin Banks-Forder in front of the goal for the equalizer.
Less than a minute later, Misic provided the game-winner, crushing a one-timer from 30-yards out into the upper left corner of the net for the 2-1 lead.
C of I, who announced yesterday they were opting out of the 10-game Cascade Conference season, played strong with their 14-man roster. The hosts struck in the 53rd minute, as Vitor Matos played a ball to Lucas Thorne, who found a streaking Ben Bechor, who ripped a shot past charging Eagles (1-0) keeper Brandon Karberg, for the early lead.
The Yotes had a chance inside the final four minutes, as NU finished the match playing 2-men down. A corner kick with two minutes remaining was headed away by centerback Titus Nickson, while Karberg made a save on a Bechor 20-yard free kick inside the final 30 seconds.
NU finished with a 10-8 edge in total shots, while the Yotes had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
The match marked the final game for five C of I seniors – Parker Billings, Matthew Sammartino, Jacob Hurter, Daniel Hagopian and Bechor.
