Caldwell Leads Heptathlon After Day 1 at C of I Icebreaker
CALDWELL, Idaho – Kendrik Caldwell picked up a win in the 60-meters and took second in the shot put and high jump, finishing Day 1 of the heptathlon just two points off his personal best time, highlighting Day 1 of the College of Idaho Icebreaker at Caldwell High School.
DAY 1 RESULTS
Hosting an indoor meet on an oversized outdoor track, the Coyotes had a great day, with Caldwell recording 2,559 points through four events, ahead of teammate Caleb Brown (2,478), with Nate Griswold sitting in fourth place (2,441).
Caldwell opened the day with a quality time of 7.35 seconds in the 60-meter dash and followed it with an opening mark of 6.27 meters (20 feet, 7 inches) in the long jump. He uncorked a mark of 10.48 meters (34 feet, 4.75 inches) in the shot put, before clearing 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.75 inches) in the high jump to end the afternoon.
Brown cut into Caldwell's lead with wins in both the shot put (11.15 meters) and high jump (1.84 meters), while Griswold earned a win in the long jump (6.44 meters).
Eastern Oregon's Jonah Coats is third overall (2,455), with fellow Mounties Sam Roddewig (2,395) and Judson Mansfield (2,263) in fifth and sixth.
Competition resumes Saturday at Noon, which will include a full indoor track schedule on the oval.
