Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following 15 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week for their performances during the period Feb. 22-28, 2021.
 
Women’s Basketball - Player
Northwest University’s Sam VanLoo was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
 
VanLoo, a six-foot-two junior forward from Lynden, Wash., helped the Eagles go 2-0 on the week. She averaged 15.0 points per game on an impressive 14-for-21 performance from the field. VanLoo also had five rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals on the week.
 
Men’s Basketball - Player
College of Idaho’s Jalen Galloway was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, his third honor of the year.
 
Galloway, a six-foot-seven junior forward from Meridian, Idaho, led the Coyotes to a 90-80 victory over Eastern Oregon University, scoring almost a third of the Yotes’ points. He finished the night 10-for-14 for 26 points, including an impressive 5-for-7 performance from beyond the arc. Galloway also chipped in six rebounds and a steal in the win.
 
Baseball - Pitcher
Oregon Tech’s Jacob Miller was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Miller, a six-foot-two junior pitcher from Albany, Ore., picked up the win as he shutdown No. 24-ranked LC State in the Owls’ 4-1 victory over the Warriors. He gave up just one hit over six innings, throwing three strikeouts in the upset win.
 
Baseball - Player
No. 24-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Riley Way was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Player of the Week.
 
Way, a five-foot-11 junior infielder from Lewiston, Idaho, led the Warriors at the plate in the series against Oregon Tech and currently leads LC in batting average. He finished the weekend with seven hits, five runs and two RBIs. He is a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases on the season with three more over the weekend.
 
Softball - Pitcher
No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Lauren Quirke was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Pitcher of the Week.
 
Quirke, a five-foot-six senior pitcher/third baseman from San Mateo, Calif., became SOU's first player to throw a perfect game since the program was revived 20 years ago in Friday's 1-0 win over George Fox. She needed just 76 pitches with a career-high eight strikeouts to complete the feat. Quirke threw another complete game, without allowing an earned run Saturday against No. 23 Corban, improving to 4-1. Offensively, Quirke went 8-for-15 with two home runs, six RBIs, five runs scored and four stolen bases on as many attempts as SOU went 4-0 on the weekend.
 
Softball - Player
Oregon Tech’s McKenna Armantrout was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Player of the Week.

Armantrout, a five-foot-seven junior catcher from Klamath Falls, Ore., had a career weekend. She hit .750, going 12-for-16 with 10 RBIs and scored eight runs. She currently ranks in the top-25 in all of the NAIA in nine offensive categories.
 
Men’s Cross Country - Runner
No. 6-ranked Lewis-Clark State’s Cole Olsen was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Olsen, a senior from Clearwater, Idaho, won the LC State Winter Invitational 2 by seven seconds, clocking in at 25:10. The Warriors battled strong winds with gusts over 40 miles per hour on the course. This is Olsen's third victory in three meets this season.
 
Women’s Cross Country - Runner
No. 6-ranked College of Idaho’s Ellyse Tingelstad was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Tingelstad, a freshman from Joseph, Ore., was the top C of I finisher at the LCSC Winter Invite 2, helping the Yotes dominate the field with just 20 place points for their third-straight win of the 2020-21 season. She crossed the 5K finish line in 17:46.
 
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
No. 10-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kiara Fontanilla was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Fontanilla, a five-foot-seven sophomore guard from Eastvale, Calif., posted back-to-back shutouts in goal for the Mountaineers to start the season. She tallied eight saves in the two clean sheets and played all 90 minutes in both contests.
 
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
No. 10-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Lindsay Balkenbush was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Balkenbush, a five-foot-four sophomore forward from Spokane, Wash., helped lead the Mounties to a 2-0 week. She scored the game-winning goal for EOU in the 2-0 home victory over Northwest University to pick up two points. Balkenbush has taken two shots so far on the young season, both of which were on goal.
 
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
No. 20-ranked Corban University’s Carlos Llamosa was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Llamosa, a five-foot-11 junior defender from Queens, N.Y., was a stalwart in the backline for the Warriors, helping his team grab two wins to open the year. He assisted Corban's first goal against Eastern Oregon University in a rematch of the 2019's CCC Tournament Championship game, then dished out two more assists in the midweek contest against Multnomah University, while also scoring a goal of his own. Llamosa played a pivotal role in two clean sheets for the Warriors, allowing just eight shots between the two contests.
 
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Corban University’s Noe Favila was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Favila, a five-foot-nine senior forward from Carlsbad, Calif., made a strong impression in his first two games for the Warriors. After scoring in his Corban, he notched a hat trick in the Warriors' dominant 12-0 win over Multnomah University, while also dishing out an assist.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
No. 9-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Madison Morgan was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week.
 
Morgan, a six-foot freshman outside hitter from Standwood, Wash., led EOU in hitting at .522 and totaled 12 kills in a 3-0 road sweep at College of Idaho. She had five kills in the second and third set, respectively. Morgan is hitting .389 for the season in five match starts as a true freshman.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Defender
No. 9-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kiley McMurtrey was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
 
McMurtrey, a five-foot-three senior defensive specialist/libero from Idaho Falls, Idaho, had a game-high 21 digs in EOU's 3-0 road sweep at College of Idaho. She tallied two service aces and assist in the win. McMurtrey has posted double-digit digs in 63-straight matches dating back to the 2018 season and has 1,848 career digs, which is nine away from becoming all-time leader at EOU.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Bushnell University’s Makenna Northern was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third week in a row.
 
Northern, a five-foot-nine junior setter from Brownsville, Ore., had another stellar performance for the Beacons. She served 13-consecutive points in the second set of a three-set sweep over George Fox as Bushnell built a 15-2 lead. She averaged 11 assists per set and continues to lead the CCC and is now No. 10 in the NAIA with 10.5 assists per set.
