CCC Sees 10 All-Americans Crowned at 2021 NAIA Women's Wrestling National Invitational

Jamestown, N.D. – RESULTS The Cascade Collegiate Conference saw three top-two individual finishes and a team finish in the top-five at the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Invitational Saturday. A total of 11 CCC student-athletes earned All-American recognition for top-eight finishes.
 
No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon University led the CCC teams with a fifth-place finish and saw its first individual champion crowned. Sienna Ramirez became the first Raider in program history to win the NAIA title, claiming the 155-pound championship with an impressive 10-0 technical fall victory in the championship.
 

Despite being the only full team in attendance to compete before the tournament due to COVID-19 guidelines, the Raiders produced three All-Americans in Ramirez, Esthela Trevino (third, 101 pounds) and Macie Stewart (third, 109). SOU also had two All-American honorable mentions in Glory Konecny (seventh, 123 pounds) and Carol Johnson (eighth, 116 pounds).
 
Three CCC teams finished back-to-back-to-back as No. 18-ranked University of Providence took 15th as a team, Corban University took 16th, and No. 17-ranked Eastern Oregon University placed 17th. Life Pacific finished 28th and Simpson University (30th) and Warner Pacific University (31st) closed out the teams representing the conference.
 
UP saw two Argos place in the top-five to grab All-American honors in the 101-pound weight classes, with Ivy Navarro finishing runner-up and her sister Ira taking fifth in the weight class.
 
Corban’s Brigid Shannon made history by becoming the first Warrior to earn All-American honors with a sixth-place finish at 136 pounds.  
 
EOU had two grapplers earn All-American status with Erin Redford finishing as the national runner-up at 143 pounds and Dempsi Talkington taking eighth at 155 pounds.
 
Day 2 Highlights
  • 101 pounds--top seed Nina Pham of Wayland Baptist pinned third seed Ivy Navarro of University of Providence in 2:19.
  • 109 pounds—top seed McKayla Campbell of Campbellsville (Ky.) won a 16-14 decision over third seed Asia Ray of Wayland Baptist. Campbell was trailing 14-12 but scored a four-point takedown with two seconds left for the come-from-behind win.
  • 116 pounds—top seed Peyton Prussin of Life defeated seventh seed Charlotte Fowler of Campbellsville by 10-0 tech fall.
  • 123 pounds—second seed Jasmine Hernandez of Lyon (Ga.) pinned top seed Julia Vidallon of Life in 4:35.
  • 130 pounds—top seed Bridgette Duty of University of the Cumberlands (Tenn.) defeated third seed Angela Vitiritti of Campbellsville by 12-2 tech fall.
  • 136 pounds—top seed Desiree Zavala of Wayland Baptist defeated second seed Randi Robison of Campbellsville by 10-0 tech fall.
  • 143 pounds—top seed Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp of Midland (Neb.) won a 4-3 decision over fifth seed Erin Redford of Eastern Oregon.
  • 155 pounds—eighth-seeded Sienna Ramirez of Southern Oregon won by 10-0 tech fall over Morgan Mayginnes of Baker (Kan.) Ramirez defeated the top seed and the fifth seed in advancing to the finals.
  • 170 pounds—second seed Jordan Nelson of Life defeated top seed Alexandra Castillo of Campbellsville by 5-1 decision.
  • 191 pounds—top seed Nkechinyere Nwankwo of Oklahoma City pinned second seed Elisa Robinson of Baker in 1:48.
  • The top eight finishers in each weight class earned All-American status.
  • Campbellsville and Life both had 10 All-Americans, followed by Jamestown (N.D.) with seven, and Wayland Baptist and Oklahoma City with six each.
