Childers, Mauk strike again as SOU finishes Bushnell sweep
SOU Sports Information
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon sophomores Madison Childers and Sarah Mauk wasted no time following up on their first goals of the season.
Twenty-four hours after getting on the board, Mauk scored in the third minute and Childers struck in the 11th as the Raiders cruised to their second win over Bushnell in as many days, 3-0 on Monday at Raider Stadium.
Childers tacked on a second score in the 54th minute for the first two-goal game of her young career. Mauk nearly joined her, striking the crossbar in both halves.
The Raiders went to 2-1-1 in the Cascade Conference with their third consecutive shutout. Ashlynn Hernandez was in goal for this one but was only needed for one save as the Raiders controlled possession and the shots battle, 18-3.
The victory was also the 65th for eighth-year head coach
Jenni Rosenberg, which tied her with Jon Clement for the most in the team history.
Senior defender Trinity Rhoades, outside of her sturdy work on the back line, also hooked up Mauk for the first goal as Mauk slipped behind the defense and Rhoades passed it to her from beyond midfield.
Mauk was then credited with an assist eight minutes later on Childers' goal, which was lined between the legs of Beacons keeper Rachel Rhoads from about 20 yards deep.
In the 54th minute, Cassandra Kohler made a slick pass to Childers for an easy shot at goal on a breakaway.
The Beacons fell to 0-4 in CCC play.
SOU will play its next back-to-back at home against Warner Pacific, which is also pointless through four conference games.
