KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech (1-0) knocked off Bushnell University (1-2) 84-77 in overtime at Danny Miles Court on Friday. Tech outscored the Beacons 21-15 in the 4th quarter to force OT, where they then outscored Bushnell 13-6 to win the game.
"For our first game in over a year, I am very pleased," said head coach
Scott Meredith. "Not only with the outcome, but with how the team competed, fought through adversity and played together. In a close overtime game, there was a lot of situational play and I'm proud of how the team handled it. Bushnell is a very talented & well coached team. Tomorrow will be another exciting battle."
Tech got out to an early advantage after a quarter of play in Klamath Falls. The Lady Owls shot 53.8% from the field in the first frame, which was essential to them grabbing a 21-15 lead.
After being outperformed in the first quarter, the visiting Beacons became a lot more aggressive. Bushnell attacked the inside relentlessly, and went to the charity stripe 10 times. The Beacons hit on 9 of those 10 free throws en route to outsourcing Tech 23-11.
The dominant stanza allowed Bushnell to take a 38-32 lead into the intermission.
In the 3rd Quarter, both teams played at a very even pace. The Beacons outshot the Owls from the floor, but Tech shot 50% from 3-point land as they both scored 18 in the 3rd.
Trailing by 6 entering the 4th quarter, the Owls played their best quarter yet. With stout defense they held Bushnell to 25% shooting, and shot 47% themselves to send this game to overtime.
In OT, Tech dominated, which allowed them to pull out the victory. Holding Bushnell to 6 points was the key to closing out the game.
