CORVALLIS, Ore. – Southern Oregon University’s Sienna Ramirez was named the 2020-21 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Wrestler of the Year, announced Friday.
Ramirez became the Raiders’ first NAIA National Champion after winning the 155-pound weight bracket at this year’s invitational after not wrestling all year. She went into the invite as the No. 8 seed after previously competing at 143 pounds and automatically qualifyies for the U.S. Olympic Trials with the championship victory.
As the No. 8 seed, she knocked out top-seeded Cierra Foster of Oklahoma City by fall in the quarterfinals and followed with an 8-6 semifinal win over Campbellsville (Ky.)'s Kendra Thompson. The championship was a romp: She defeated No. 2 Morgan Mayginnes of Baker (Kan.) 10-0 in a technical fall that was called just 33 seconds into the second round.
The senior from Lakewood, Wash., is a four-time NAIA All-American and currently holds the record from most wins in a career for SOU, boasting an 83-25 career record. Ramirez was named to the SOU All-Decade team and last year finished the year as the No. 3-ranked grappler at 143 pounds.
