Eastern Oregon Earns Conference Opening Victory
PORTLAND, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University took the victory in their conference opener against Multnomah University with a final score of 101-74.
Starting the game point-for-point, the teams were tied up at 14’s with fourteen minutes left. After a couple minutes the Mountaineers had rallied their way to a 9 point lead. The Lions snuck their way back in to shorten the difference to just 1, but Eastern Oregon almost doubled their first run to go up by 15 at the half.
The Mountaineers continued to gain momentum and chip away at their lead, winning by a total of 27 points. Both teams played consistently throughout the halves – Multnomah scoring 37 in each half, and Eastern Oregon scoring 50 then 51.
Leading both teams in scoring was Zach Richardson of Multnomah, finishing with 31 points. Earning a double-double was Forrest Smith – who tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The Mountaineers Max McCullough led their squad with 17 points, followed by Justin Jeske, Zane Wright, and Preston Chandler each with 14. Jeske and Chandler earned double-doubled after bringing down 16 and 11 boards, respectively. Finishing out the leading scorers was Brandon Porter with 13.
The teams will play again on March 20
th at 3pm, for their second conference game but sixth matchup against each other this season.
