Mountaineers Take Conference Opener
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon defeated the Lions of Multnomah University in their conference opener on Friday, March 19
th, with a final score of 82-48.
Taking control of the first quarter, the Mountaineers outscored the Lions 20-7. Multnomah started to find their rhythm but was unable to shorten the difference, heading into the locker rooms down by 19.
The third quarter was almost identical to the second from a scoring perspective and gave Eastern Oregon a 25 point lead heading into the final ten minutes, 55-30.
Both teams had their quarter high for scoring in the fourth, with the Lions tallying 17 and the Mountaineers with 27.
Earning a double-double and leading both teams in scoring and rebound was Beverly Slater of the Mountaineers, finishing with 17 and 14, respectively. Adyson Harris tallied 15, followed by Macie Elliott with 11. A total of 11 players scored for the Mountaineers.
Leading the Lions in points and rebounds was Alaygza Portis with 14 points and 8 boards. Maddie Hill was also in the double-digit range after scoring 11.
The Lions were dealt their 8
th straight loss, and their 3
rd from the Mountaineers this season.
The two teams will play again on Saturday, March 20
th, with a 1pm tip-off time to finish out their CCC opening weekend.
