LEWISTON, Idaho – The weather agreed with the LC State Cross Country trail for once this season for the 2020 Cascade Conference Cross Country Championships, presented by U.S. Bank.
Newcomer No. 11-ranked LC State claimed its first-ever CCC men’s title and saw a Warrior grab the individual title. Head Coach Mike Collins was named the CCC Men’s Head Coach of the Year following the race.
In their third time running on their home course this season – something out of the ordinary compared to most seasons – the Warriors finished with 54 points and saw three individuals in the top-10, including two in the top-two. The race was tighter than some expected, so the fourth and fifth finishers became especially important to help LC State capture the title. They finished with just four points separating first and second.
No. 17-ranked Oregon Tech took second with 58 points, led by Mark French, who took second with a time of 24:32. Two other Owls placed in the top-10 to earn all-conference honors.
No. 8-ranked College of Idaho finished with 63 points for third place, while No. 20-ranked Northwest University posted 79 points for fourth. Eastern Oregon University finished fifth (125) and Corban University placed sixth as a team (149), while Bushnell University (192) and Multnomah University (238) rounded out the team finishes.
LC State's Cole Olsen did what he always does out on the cross country course when he jumped out in front and stayed there. The senior finished his race in a time of 24 minutes, 18 seconds, besting the second-place runner by 14 seconds. This is the second year in a row Olsen has won a conference championship after doing so last season in the Frontier.
Clayton VanDyke wasn’t too far behind his teammate Olsen, taking third with a time of 24:49. NU’s Micah Murphy and EOU’s Travis Running rounded out the top-five individuals, both posting times of 24:54.
