SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team ended their home slate on Monday with a game against the Warner Pacific Knights for the second day in a row at CFC Soccer Complex. The Corban offense was spectacular on this senior day, as the Warriors cruised to a 4-0 finish over the Knights.
"It was great to celebrate the seniors today," said interim head coach Tim Kagey. "It was even better that two of them got to score. It was a fun weekend all around."
The Navy and Gold were off and running from the start, as in just the 11th minute, senior Maggie Oatridge scored the first goal of her career in a Corban jersey. She drove into the box after some slick passing from Chanel Garcia and Juliana Pires, who both recorded assists on the tally, and poked it past the Knights' diving keeper.
Just like in Sunday's victory, the Warriors entered the half up 1-0, and after getting many chances on net through the first 28 minutes of the second half, they had not yet added to their total.
However, that changed in the 73rd minute when another senior Madison Veltkamp extended the Corban lead with a slicing shot that found its way into the bottom-left corner of the net. She was assisted on the play by Cammie Wolter.
The next two goals of the contest were scored by first-year Warrior Mei Suetsugu, who capitalized off of a corner kick from Moe Sato by heading in a cross from the left corner straight between the pipes in the 78th minute for her third score of the season. Following that tally, she obtained a pass from Emma Rosner and blasted a shot from 15 feet outside the box that found its way into the goal for her second goal of the afternoon in the 87th minute.
In what was a lopsided affair, the Warriors peppered the net with 11 shots on goal, while the Knights did not record a shot on goal in the entire game. Also sporting a 20-2 advantage in total shots, Corban maintained control of the bout throughout.
The Navy and Gold had 10 corner kicks to Warner Pacific's five, and they drew 14 fouls, while the Knights drew just four in the full 90 minutes.
Devan Archer was credited with another victory, as she now sports a 7-2 record on the campaign. She was replaced for part of the second half by senior goalie Monique Miller, who also did not allow a goal.
Seniors Katie Hiller and Michaela Symons were the other two seniors among the Warrior ranks that were honored as a part of their final home game as members of the Navy and Gold.
Corban (7-2, 7-1 CCC) will play their final regular season games of the 2020 season at Southern Oregon University, where they will battle the Raiders on April 5 (Mon.) and April 6 (Tue.) at 12 p.m.
