Four Athletes Hit NAIA "A" Standards at Eastern Oregon Multi-Events Meet

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Track & Field had a small contingent of its multi-event athletes compete over a two-day span on its home field. The Mountaineers hosted the Eastern Oregon Multi-Events meets that featured competition against College of Idaho.
 
EOU had its multi-event athletes secure wins in both the heptathlon and the decathlon. Winning the heptathlon was Olivia Lane with a total of 4,099 points, while Tyler Davis won the decathlon with 6,286 points. For both athletes, their point totals are NAIA "A" standards for the outdoor season.
 
Caleb Brown from C of I was second in the decathlon with 6,030 points followed by Sam Roddewig in third with 5,823 points. For Roddewig and Brown, their point totals reached a NAIA "A" standard for the outdoor season. Davis currently leads the NAIA, followed by Brown and Roddewig. Lane's point total is currently fourth highest in the heptathlon.
 
In the heptathlon, Kiersten Lancaster for the Yotes was second scoring 3,811 points. Cheyanne Collins was third with 3,752 points followed by Sophi Clay (C of I) in fourth with 3,599 points. Karli Bedard finished fifth 3,443 points.
 
Day 1
The first day of competition featured the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter dash for the men. On the women's side it was the 100-meter hurdle, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter dash on the docket.
 
Davis was the event winner in four of the five events on the first day. He started with a win in the 100 with a time of 11.55, while Roddewig was third in a time of 12.30. In long jump, Davis picked up his second win with a leap of 19-9 flat. Roddewig was once again third with a mark of 19-6.
 
Davis continued to build on his lead in the decathlon winning his third straight event, this time in the shot put. He chucked the stone 38-1 ¼ to take down the field. Roddewig hit a mark of 29-11 ½ to finish third.
 
The high jump was the first event Davis did not secure a win in as he placed second in the event. He cleared the bar at a height of 5-10 flat. Roddewig placed third at 5-5 ¼. In the final event with the 400, Davis won yet again with a time of 50.70. Roddewig was third in a time of 55.02.
 
For the women, Lane highlighted day one for EOU winning two of the four events and placing top-two in all four. In the hurdles, she placed second running a time of 17.07. Bedard was third behind Lane running a 17.27. Collins was fourth crossing the finish line in 17.33.
 
Lane's first win was in the high jump and she ended up sharing the win with Collins. Both athletes cleared the bar at 4-10 ¼ on their first attempts to tie the event. Bedard was third in the event for EOU as they secured the top spots. She cleared a height of 4-9 flat to end up in the top-three.
 
Win No. 2 for Lane was in the shot put. She heaved the rock a distance of 33-9 ¼ to take the top spot. Bedard was right behind her in second at 31-6. Collins was again rounded out the top-three placing behind Bedard with a mark of 30-3 ½.
 
Day one ended with the women placing second, fourth, and fifth in the 200. Lane led the way placing second in a time of 27.55. Two spots back was Collins in fourth with a final time of 27.91. Bedard was fifth, running a 29.36.
 
Day 2
The second day saw the women compete in three events, while the men ended the day with five once again. For the women, they ended the meet with the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run. The men ended things with the 110-meter high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500-meter run.
 
In the long jump, Lane was the winner to start the day with a leap of 17-3 ¼. Collins was third with a jump of 16-1 ¾. Bedard placed fifth with a mark of 14-1 ¼. In the javelin, Lane was second with a throw of 84-3. Bedard was third at 83-9, followed by Collins in fourth with a mark of 82-8.
 
In the final event, Lane once again led the way for EOU. She placed third for the two-lap race crossing the finish line in 2:31.85. Collins was fourth with a time of 2:41.83, followed by Bedard in a time 2:45.72.
 
Day two started with Davis winning the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.07. Roddewig was behind him in second with a time of 16.49. In the discus, Davis placed second with a throw of 112-7. Roddewig was third with a heave of 103-4.
 
Pole Vault belonged to Roddewig as he took down the field by over two feet as he cleared the bar at 14-9. Davis was second clearing a height of 12-1 ½. In the javelin, Roddewig led the way again placing second with a mark of 145-2. Davis was third hitting a mark of 141-0 flat.
 
The last event of the meet in the 1500 was once again led by Roddewig. He placed second overall and ran the race in a final time of 4:51.62. Davis was third in the 1500 running a time of 4:59.15.

The Mountaineers will have athletes competing this Friday, April 2 at the H.I.R. Invitational hosted by Whitworth University. Competition begins at 2:00 p.m. PT in Spokane, Wash.
