CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 11 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week for their performances during the period March 1-7, 2021.
Women’s Basketball - Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Beverly Slater was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Slater, a five-foot-11 junior guard from Boise, Idaho, scored in double figures in two home wins over George Fox University. She shot over 50-percent for the weekend to help improve EOU's record to 5-1 on the season. Slater dished out eight assists and had three steals on the weekend.
Men’s Basketball - Player
Northwest University’s CaCoa Chatman was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Chatman, a five-foot-10 junior guard from Long Beach, Calif., helped the Eagles pick up three wins over the week. He averaged 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .613 from the floor – including a 9-for-18 performance from three-point range. Chatman also had two steals on the week.
Baseball - Pitcher
Eastern Oregon University’s Nick Jennings was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Jennings, a six-foot-two sophomore pitcher from Vancouver, Wash., pitched a complete game in the second game of the series against the College of Idaho. He had 10 strikeouts, allowed three walks and threw 136 pitches in his first career win at EOU, also helping the Mounties pick up their first win since 2006.
Baseball - Player
No. 24-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Dillon Plew was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Player of the Week.
Plew, a six-foot-four senior infielder from Kennewick, Wash., hit .385 in the four-game series sweep of Corban University. He had the winning hits in the first and third games of the series, including a three-run home run in game one and a two-RBI double in game three. Plew had five hits – including three extra-base hits, scored two runs, and batted in six RBI.
Softball - Pitcher
College of Idaho’s Hannah McNerney was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Pitcher of the Week.
McNerney, a five-foot-11 junior pitcher from Hood River, Ore., tossed a seven-inning one-hitter in the second game of the series with Northwest University. She allowed just four hits and one earned run in 11 innings this week as C of I swept NU.
Softball - Player
No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Riley Donovan was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Player of the Week.
Donovan, a five-foot-11 junior catcher from Half Moon Bay, Calif., went 6-for-11 with 11 RBIs, driving in at least one run in each of SOU's four wins over Bushnell University to open CCC play. She set the tone in Game 1 of the series with a grand slam and two RBI doubles. Donovan also was 2-for-2 for stolen base attempts.
Men’s Cross Country - Runner
No. 20-ranked Oregon Tech’s Mark French was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season.
French, a senior from Tualatin, Ore., took first out of 15 runners in the 8K against Corban University. He crossed the finish line in 26 minutes, six seconds.
Women’s Cross Country - Runner
No. 12-ranked Oregon Tech’s Faith Widman was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, her third time winning the award this year.
Widman, a junior from Fairbanks, Alaska, took first out of 18 runners against Corban University. She crossed the 5K finish line in 19:20.
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
No. 13-ranked Corban University’s Avari Ridgway was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week, her second honor of the season.
Ridgway, a six-foot-one junior outside hitter from McMinnville, Ore., had a ridiculous weekend offensively, tallying double-digit kill counts in each of her four matches for the Warriors. With the weekend factored in, her season attack percentage is now an impressive .357, as she attacked at a .500 clip or above in three of the team's four matches on the weekend. She leads the CCC with 3.81 kills per set and averaged 3.86 kills per set over the four matches with a .402 average attack percentage.
Women’s Volleyball - Defender
No. 8-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kiley McMurtrey was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week for the second week in a row.
McMurtrey, a five-foot-three senior defensive specialist/libero from Idaho Falls, Idaho, became the all-time career leader in digs at EOU in the first match win against Warner Pacific University and now has 1,939 career digs. She posted double-figure digs in every match for the weekend and had five service aces over the four-match span.
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Bushnell University’s Makenna Northern was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week for an impressive fourth week in a row.
Northern, a five-foot-nine junior setter from Brownsville, Ore., helped the Beacons grab two wins over host College of Idaho, with two double-doubles (42 assists, 12 digs and 28 assists, 11 digs). She averaged 9.07 assists and 2.64 digs per set over four matches. Northern also finished the week with three aces, five kills and two blocks.
