Battlin' Bears Defeat Mountaineers 3-1 in La Grande

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Men’s Soccer suffered its second consecutive loss on Monday afternoon as the team fell to Rocky Mountain College 3-1 inside Community Stadium. With the loss, EOU falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in CCC East Division play.

The Mountaineers came out aggressive in the first period taking eight shots compared to just one the day before. The Battlin’ Bears (2-0, 2-0 CCC) however responded and limited EOU to just two shots in the second period.

Rocky Mountain finished with 20 shots for the game with 13 coming in the second half alone. Shots on goal also feel in the Battlin’ Bears favor at 11-5. Both teams finished with 12 fouls for the contest and each team had two yellow cards. The first Rocky Mountain goal once again came late in the first period. The Battlin’ bears did manage to score earlier in the frame but the goal was waived off due to an interference. EOU surrendered the goal in the 43rd minute and went into halftime trailing 1-0.

Coming out of the break, the Battlin’ Bears managed to net its next two goal within three minutes of each other. The first came in the 55th minutes as Rocky Mountain scored from the left side to make it a 2-0 lead. In the 58th minute the lead grew to 3-0 on a goal from the right inside of the box. The lone goal for the Mountaineers came on an own goal. Following a goalkeeper substitution by Rocky Mountain, the backup misplayed a kick from inside the penalty area that rolled back into the net to make it a 3-1 game in the 84th minute.
 
Jorge Medina led EOU with three shots for the game and had two come on goal. Patrick Larsen totaled two shots in the match and had one come on goal. In net, Max Rose picked up eight goals while playing all 90 minutes.
 
For the Battin’ Bears, Ethan Boone scored two goals to lead Rocky Mountain. He took four shots and had three come on net. Sky Swenson scored a goal and tallied an assist in the win. He had two shots with both being on goal. Goalkeeper Ryan Cornwall had four saves in the start and played 75 minutes in the win.
 
EOU will hit the road for the first time this season as they will head to Helena, Mont. to take on the Carroll College Saints on March 14 and 15. Game times for both Sunday and Monday’s matches are set for 1 p.m. PT.
