EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell University men’s basketball team opened up the second half on a 31-7 run and never looked back, taking down Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, 91-74 to climb back to .500 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference spring season standings.

Bushnell (5-5, 5-5 CCC) used another strong night shooting the ball, hitting on 59% of their shots including a 12-for-18 clip from three-point range. The Beacons were out-rebounded 40-33 in the game but held the Mounties to 40% shooting from the field and 32% from three-point range.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, “Our team came out and really played some of the best defense we have all season in the second half tonight. Our devotionals this week focused on joy. We played this week knowing where our joy is found. We played for God and for each other.”

The Beacons starters flexed their muscles on Saturday with all five playing at least 29 minutes as they scored all but eight of the team’s points. Ernest Ugoagu (picutred) led the way, hitting 5-for-6 from three-point range to score 22. Stevie Schlabach added 20 points and three steals while Katie Sand scored 19.

Nico Wolff posted a double-double, shooting 5-for-7 for 15 points, ten rebounds and a game-high four steals. Freshman Luke Burke scored seven, but led all players with seven assists.

Eastern Oregon (7-7, 3-5 CCC) was led by Max McCullough, scoring a game-high 29 points along with four steals, but was limited to just nine points in the second half after going off for 32 last night. Jordan Montrose added 15 points and Zane Wright scored 11.

“We took everything easy away from Max and Zane,” said Alexander. “It was a total team effort. I couldn’t be prouder of how we are growing and coming together as a squad.
