CCC Track Multis Championship Day 1 Recap

ASHLAND, Ore. – After the first day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Multis Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, Southern Oregon University’s Joseph Dotson leads the men’s field, while Corban University’s Valerie Schmidt sits atop the women’s leaderboard.
 
Dotson boasts a 3,481 after the first five events of the decathlon. The senior posted first-place finishes in three of the five events: 100-meter dash (11.32 seconds), long jump (6.74 meters), and 400-meter (50.73 seconds). Dotson also finished with a mark of 11.28 meters in the shot put (sixth) and 1.76 meters in the high jump (ninth).
 
Eastern Oregon University’s TJ Davis sits in second with a 3,426 after three second-place finishes in the five disciplines: 100-meter (11.33 seconds), shot put (11.85 meters) and the 400-meter (50.99 seconds). He also took sixth in the long jump (6.18 meters) and fifth in the high jump (1.82 meters).
 
Fellow Mountaineer Thomas Dodgen follows in third with a 3,402. He posted times of 11.48 (100m, fourth) and 51.25 (400m, third) seconds, along with marks of 6.46 (long jump, third), 1.88 (high jump, second) and 10.29 (shot put, 11th) meters on the day.
 
Solomon Tinnon puts two Raiders in the top-five, sitting in fourth at 3,269. He led the shot put with a score of 12.73 meters and took third in the 100m (11.45 seconds) and high jump (1.85 meters). Tinnon also posted 5.88 meters in the long jump (11th) and 54.39 seconds in the 400m (ninth).
 
Rounding out the top-five men was College of Idaho’s Caleb Brown with a score of 3,253. He won the high jump with a mark of 1.94 meters, while posting top-five finishes in three other disciplines: shot put (11.66 meters, fourth), long jump (6.19 meters, fifth) and 400m (53.28 seconds, fifth). Brown finished the 100m dash in 12.16 seconds (12th).
 

On the women’s side, Schmidt holds a 2,911 through the first four events of the heptathlon. The sophomore won three of the four disciplines and took second in the other to lead the field. Schmidt finished in first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.81 seconds), shot put (10.48 meters) and 200-meter (26.04), while taking second in the high jump (1.56 meters) to hold a 257-point upper hand.
 
EOU’s Olivia Lane isn’t too far behind, holding 2,658 points after the first day to sit in second. Lane posted three top-five finishes: 100m hurdles (15.37 seconds, fourth), high jump (1.50 meters, fifth) and shot put (10.26 meters, second), and finished ninth in the 200m (27.17 seconds).
 
SOU’s Julia Delucchi boasts a 2,643 for third place. She had two third-place finishes: 100m hurdles (15.13 seconds) and 200m (26.64 seconds), while taking fifth in the high jump (1.50 meters) and ninth in the shot put (9.36 meters).
 
Warner Pacific University’s Savannah Proske holds the fourth-place spot after winning the high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters. She has 2,577 points through the first half of the heptathlon, grabbing seventh in the 200m (27.13 seconds), 10th in the shot put (9.16 meters) and 12th in the 100m hurdles (16.60 seconds).
 
Rounding out the top-five for the women is EOU’s Cheyanne Collins with 2,563. She finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (15.65 seconds), while taking sixth in the other three events: high jump (1.47 meters), shot put (9.65 meters) and 200m (27.01 seconds).

The top-three finishers in both the decathlon and heptathlon will be considered All-CCC, and the top-eight will accumulate points that go towards their teams' totals at the CCC Championships on May 14-15 in La Grande, Ore.
