CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 17 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week for their performances during the period March 29-April 4, 2021.
Women’s Basketball - Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Beverly Slater was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this spring.
Slater, a five-foot-11 junior guard from Boise, Idaho, posted a double-double in back-to-back wins against Warner Pacific University. She shot over 50-percent from the floor in both wins and led the way in scoring for EOU both games. Slater also had six assists, two blocks and three steals on the weekend.
Men’s Basketball - Player
Oregon Tech’s Garret Albrecht was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Albrecht, a six-foot-nine senior forward from Redmond, Ore., had a career-high 32 points, leading the Owls past rival Southern Oregon University 86-71 in the Clash of the Cascades on Friday. He also posted 11 rebounds to grab a double-double and finished the series averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He shot an impressive 83.3-percent from the floor, including a perfect 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc, and was 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Baseball - Pitcher
Corban University’s Zack Simon was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Simon, a six-foot-one sophomore pitcher from Las Vegas, continued his dominant season on the mound. On Saturday, he notched his first career complete-game victory, going the distance and allowing just one earned run against the Yotes, while striking out nine. He has the lowest ERA in the CCC, sitting at a minuscule 1.76, and he has allowed one earned run or fewer in every conference game he has pitched this season.
Baseball - Player
No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Matt James was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Player of the Week.
James, a five-foot-11 junior catcher from Bellingham, Wash., had a monster week at the plate with a .667 batting average, 1.467 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage. Of his 10 hits, three were doubles and three were home runs. With five walks, James reached base safely in 15 of 20 plate appearances and scored seven runs. He also knocked in six runs.
Softball - Pitcher
Top-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Gabby Sandoval was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Pitcher of the Week, her third honor of the year.
Sandoval, a five-foot-three senior pitcher from Anaheim, Calif., moved into the top-five on the NAIA's all-time wins list by improving to 106-17 in her career. She won her 29th and 30th consecutive decisions dating back to 2019 over the weekend, pitching her sixth and seventh shutouts of the year in the process. She now stands at 16-0 with a 1.24 ERA in 2021.
Softball - Player
Top-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Lauren Quirke was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Player of the Week, her first player honor after grabbing two pitcher honors earlier this year.
Quirke, a five-foot-six senior pitcher/third baseman from San Mateo, Calif., totaled four home runs and six extra-base hits on the weekend. She took over the CCC lead in batting average (.515), RBIs (40), hits (53) and total bases (89) in the process. Quirke also made an appearance in the circle for the Raiders, improving to 10-2 with three scoreless innings in Game 2 of the series.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
College of Idaho’s Kylee Atkins was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, her second of the year.
Atkins, a five-foot-six senior goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, made five huge saves to keep No. 9-ranked Eastern Oregon University scoreless in a 1-0 victory for the Coyotes. She came up big in a diving stop from a 20-yard free kick to keep the clean sheet.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Carroll College’s Blair Stapleton was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Stapleton, a five-foot-seven sophomore midfielder from Billings, Mont., scored a hat trick in the Saints’ 4-0 victory over the University of Providence. All three of her goals came in the first half to give Carroll its third-straight victory.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Carroll College’s Melle de Reuver was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
De Reuver, a six-foot-three sophomore goalkeeper from Hilversum, Holland, had to make one crucial save in a scoreless draw with the University of Providence. He commanded the backline for 110 minutes to keep the Argos at bay.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Rocky Mountain College’s Ethan Boone was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Boone, a six-foot freshman forward from Las Vegas, scored two goals and had one assist in Rocky’s 7-0 victory over Multnomah University. His first goal came in the 33
rd minute off a throw in, before assisting Sky Swenson in the 53
rd minute. He added another in the 57
th minute to all but seal the win for the Battlin’ Bears.
Men’s Outdoor – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Zach Rickard was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Rickard, a senior from Antelope, Calif., broke the C of I school record and hit the NAIA "A" mark with is throw of 177 feet, seven inches at the Linfield Boyman Invite. He won the event to help the Yotes secure the team title.
Men’s Outdoor – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Zeke Stelzer was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Stelzer, a junior from The Dalles, Ore., hit the NAIA 'A' standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by winning in nine minutes, 22.18 seconds. He currently stands at No. 2 on the NAIA performance list with the finish.
Women’s Outdoor – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Catylynn Duff was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, her second of the season.
Duff, a junior from Culver, Ore., broke C of I's hammer throw record by nearly six feet, dominating the field at the Boyman Invite. She now has the No. 3 mark in the NAIA after posting the 53.29 throw. She also earned a win in the shot put and placed third in the discus (recording her season-best mark).
Women’s Outdoor – Track Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Olivia Lane was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Lane, a senior from Clarkston, Wash., hit the "A" qualifying standard in EOU’s home meet and was overall winner in the heptathlon. She finished with a score of 4,099 after running the 100-meter hurdles in 17.07 seconds, the 200-meter in 27.55 seconds and the 800-meter in 2:31.85. She also posted marks of 1.48-meters in the high jump, 10.29-meters in the shot put, 5.26-meters in the long jump and 25.69-meters in the javelin.
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
Bushnell University’s Natalie Martin was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week, her second of the year.
Martin, a six-foot-one senior middle blocker from Pleasant Hill, Ore., led the Beacons to a 2-0 week and set a new Bushnell single-match record for attack percentage on Friday (.842) and scored over a third of the team's points. She posted 5.17 kills per set and 12 blocks on the weekend as the Beacons finished tied for third in the CCC, their highest finish in school history.
Women’s Volleyball - Defender
College of Idaho’s Chloe Knudson was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Knudson, a five-foot-five junior outside hitter from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, averaged nearly six digs per set (5.88) in the weekend series with Corban, including a career-high 30 in Saturday's win. She also had three aces and two assists over the weekend.
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Bushnell University’s Makenna Northern was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week, her fifth honor of the year.
Northern, a five-foot-nine junior setter from Brownsville, Ore., led the Beacon offense to a combined .405 attack percentage on the weekend. She posted 76 assists over the two matches to average 12.67 assists per set. Northern also had 2.83 digs and 1.00 blocks per set averages to lift Bushnell twice over Warner Pacific University.
