CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following eight CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Players of the Week for their performances during the period May 3-9, 2021.
Baseball - Pitcher
No. 5-ranked Lewis-Clark State College Trent Sellers was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.
Sellers, a six-foot-one sophomore pitcher from Kennewick, Wash., got the win in the CCC Tournament Championship game after striking out six in five innings. He did not allow a single run and gave up just two hits to lead the Warriors to the first-ever CCC Baseball Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank.
Baseball - Player
No. 5-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Brock Ephan was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Baseball Player of the Week for the third week in a row and fifth time this season.
Ephan, a six-foot-four senior infielder from Kalaheo, Hawaii, hit a staggering .692 in the three-game CCC Baseball Championship Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. The 2021 CCC Player of the Year was 5-for-5 in the title game and drove in six runs. He finished the weekend slugging .846 with nine hits, two walks and scored two runs himself.
Softball - Pitcher
No. 17-ranked Oregon Tech’s Sarah Abramson was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third week in a row.
Abramson, a five-foot-10 junior pitcher from Milwaukie, Ore., led the Owls to the CCC Softball Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, pitching OIT to all four wins with a .52 ERA. She threw 27 innings over the course of the three days, including three complete-game shutouts, with one coming as a no-hitter in the opening round against Warner Pacific University.
Softball - Player
No. 17-ranked Oregon Tech’s Maggie Buckholz was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Player of the Week for the second time this year.
Buckholz, a five-foot-seven sophomore right fielder from Silverton, Ore., had a great weekend at the plate, including a three-run back-breaking home run over top-ranked SOU that pushed the Tech lead from 2-0 to 5-0. She finished the CCC Softball Championship Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, batting .538 with seven hits, three runs and four RBIs.
Men’s Outdoor – Field Athlete
Oregon Tech’s Thomas Dodgen was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Dodgen, a junior from Adin, Calif., won the Canis Latrans Muti Qualifier on Sunday. He won the decathlon event with 6492 points, hitting an NAIA "A" in the decathlon and is now fifth in the nation.
Men’s Outdoor – Track Athlete
Oregon Tech’s Mark French was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, his second of the season.
French, a senior from Tualatin, Ore., hit an NAIA "A" mark in the 5K, breaking the school record by 20 seconds. He clocked in with a time of 14:25 and is now No.1 in the NAIA in the event.
Women’s Outdoor – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Catylynn Duff was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this year.
Duff, a junior from Culver, Ore., won the discus at the Canis Latrans Invite, with her personal best throw of 43.59. It hit the NAIA "B" standard and vaulted her to No. 2 on the CCC season list.
Women’s Outdoor – Track Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Arianna Daniel was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, her second of the season.
Daniel, a senior from Elk Grove, Calif., posted another personal record in the 400-meter race with a time of 55.44 seconds – the second-fastest time in the NAIA this season. She finished ahead of seven NCAA Division I runners for runner-up status at Hayward Field. Daniel's 400 time is nearly three seconds faster than the next best in the CCC.
