COLUMBUS, Georgia
– Southern Oregon University got halfway through its NAIA World Series opener Friday against Bethany (Kan.) before a thunderstorm halted play for the night at the South Commons Softball Complex.

The top-seeded Raiders (49-5) and No. 9-seeded Swedes (30-27) will pick up at 7 a.m. Pacific Time on Saturday where they left off, with SOU leading 1-0 and batting with no outs in the bottom of the fourth.

Senior first baseman Tayler Walker gave the Raiders a lead to sleep on, jumping on Samantha Quezada's first pitch of the second inning and sending it over the fence in left field for her second home run of the postseason. Meanwhile, Raider pitcher Gabby Sandoval is working on a no-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks.

The game was called around 9:50 p.m. local time.

The rest of Saturday's schedule has been pushed back as a result. The SOU-Bethany winner will move on to play No. 4 seed College of Idaho at 1:30 p.m. PDT, but the loser will have to turnaround to play an elimination game at 11 a.m. PDT against No. 10-seeded Houston-Victoria (Texas).

The SOU-Bethany start had already been pushed back an hour due to rain delays earlier in the day. No rain is in Saturday's forecast.
