Coyotes' Evans Honored as First-Team Academic All-American

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – College of Idaho senior defender Kaya Evans was honored as a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Evans, a recent C of I graduate from Pocatello, helped lead the Yotes to the Cascade Conference East Division title this spring on her way to CCC Player of the Year accolades in her final collegiate season.

In the classroom, Evans posted a 3.98 GPA as a political economy major.

Over the course of her collegiate career, Evans was a three-time CCC All-Academic Team selection, a three-time All-Conference pick, an honorable mention NAIA All-American, an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-District selection.

Evans joins Sydney Woods (2015) as the only first-team Academic All-American honorees in women's soccer program history. Just 11 student-athletes nationally were named first-team selections at the NAIA level.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Previous Academic All-Americans include Super Bowl MVPs Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, WNBA star Maya Moore and Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi.
