CORVALLIS, Ore. – Five months after winning its second Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, the College of Idaho was picked to repeat the feat for the third time.
The Coyotes grabbed nine first-place votes to sit atop the 2021 CCC Women’s Cross Country Preseason Poll, released Wednesday by the conference office. The College of Idaho comes off a dominant season where it finished as the NAIA runner-up for the second year in a row.
Lewis-Clark State College looks to build on its first season competing in the CCC and picked up one first-place vote to sit in second on the preseason list with 90 points. The Warriors finished 13
th at the NAIA Championship.
Oregon Tech sits in third on the list with 74 points after taking third at the conference championship. The Owls saw Faith Widman win the individual title and lead Oregon Tech to a 15
th-place finish at nationals.
Southern Oregon University returns to the course after opting out of the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns. The Raiders secured 68 points for fourth place on the preseason list.
Northwest University comes off a solid year where it took fourth at the CCC championship and went on to finish 21
st at nationals. The Eagles picked up 60 points to sit in the No. 5 spot on the preseason poll.
Eastern Oregon University (53 points), Bushnell University (38 points) and Corban University (35 points) fill in the next three respective spots, while Multnomah University (ninth, 21 points) and Walla Walla University (10
th, 10 points) close out the preseason poll.
The 2021 CCC Women’s Cross Country Championship takes place Nov. 5, hosted by Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore. Last year, the CCC sent four teams to the NAIA Championship.
