PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Tenth-ranked Mountaineer Women's Soccer picked up its first win of the season Sunday night as they took down Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) 1-0 on the road. The Mountaineers win over the Eagles improves their record to 1-1 on the season.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers wasted little time getting on the board as they grabbed the lead in the first three minutes of action. Finding the back of the net for Eastern was
Lindsay Balkenbush thanks to a pass from
Natalie Goeth to give EOU a 1-0 lead.
• The score remained at 1-0 through the rest of the first period but Embry-Riddle (0-1-1) applied pressure on offense the whole way.
• The Eagles outshot the Mountaineers 8-3 overall and had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Madeline Barker did well in her start with four saves in the first period.
• Despite the offensive pressure by the home team, Eastern went into the halftime break with the one goal lead. The Eagles continued to put a barrage of shots in the second frame, but stout defense by EOU kept the score at a final of 1-0.
• Embry-Riddle finished the game with 16 shots with eight coming in the second period. Barker continued to impress in the win as she tallied nine saves in the second to secure the shutout win for the Mountaineers.
