Beacons Fall to Pacific Union in Season Opener

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell men’s soccer team lost to Pacific Union on Sunday, 3-1, in their season opener.

The Pioneers (1-1) held a 19-6 shot advantage and took eight shots-on-goal to four for the Beacons. PUC opened up the scoring in the 14th minute on a goal from Issay Bravo, but Bushnell answered back just 12 minutes later.

Taking advantage of a non-chalant play by the Pacific Union keeper, freshman forward Caleb Burke (pictured) made the ultimate hustle play up top, charging in a taking the ball away, creating an open net opportunity that he didn’t waste. It was his first career goal and took Bushnell into halftime tied 1-1.

Bravo wound up with the game-winning goal just seven minutes into the second half and the visitors tacked on another score in the 72th minute.

"Today's result was a tough one," said head coach Will Hander. "We were just off today and not connected so we will get regrouped and get ready to get back on the pitch for our next game on Wednesday."

Bushnell will return to action Wednesday as they travel to Newberg to take on George Fox University at 7:30 p.m
