Eastern Drops 1-0 Road Contest to The Master's

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Eastern Oregon University Men's Soccer suffered a tough loss on the road Thursday afternoon as the team fell 1-0 to The Master's University. With the loss, the Mountaineers record falls to 0-2-0 on the year.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers stifled on offense in the first period as they were held to just three shots for the frame and finished with eight for the match. In shots on goal, EOU had just three.
• Helping the Mustangs (1-2-0) pick up their first win of the season was a barrage of shots on offense complimented with their defense. TMU finished with 16 shots total and 10 shots on goal.
• Despite the high number of shots surrendered, EOU's defense still held the Mustangs to just one goal, but that's all they needed to secure the win.
• The lone goal for The Master's came in the 20th minute. Giorgio Martino got down the left sideline and cut back to beat his defender for the long shot attempt. He placed the ball in the high right corner just past the reach of goalkeeper Noah Galow.
• The Mustangs offensive pressure was the difference in the first 45 minutes of action before adjustments made by EOU slowed the pace up. Going into the halftime break, TMU held a 11-3 shots edge.
• Going into the second period, Eastern limited the Mustangs' offense to just five shots, with two coming on goal. EOU also posted five shots in the same span with three coming on goal. Despite the adjustments, the Mountaineers never managed to tie the contest to force overtime.
• Both teams played aggressively, finishing with 10 fouls apiece. The Master's led the way in corner kicks as well finishing with a 4-2 advantage.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Carlos Murillo led the offense yet again for EOU totaling two shots in his second career start.
• Dawson Heuett was the only other starter to tally a shot with one and it was on goal.
• Nathan Wright also had one shot in the match off the bench that came on goal.
• In net, Noah Galow made nine saves in his first career start for the Mounties.

For the Mustangs
• Giorgio Martino led TMU's offense with the golden goal and had four shots total. He had two shots come on goal.
• Theo Kudlo was credited with the assist on the lone goal and also had one shot on goal in the win.
• Caden Zierenberg finished with three shots total and had two shots on goal.
• Off the bench, Jonathan Lengkey also tallied three shots overall, with two coming on goal.
• Goalkeeper Kian Bensend picked up the win and had three saves in 90 minutes of action.

By the Numbers
2 - This is just the second loss for EOU all-time against a school from California.
2 - Carlos Murillo has now tallied two shots in each of his last two starts.
9 - The nine saves by Noah Galow is a career high.
3 - The Mountaineers have been held to just three shots on goal in each of their last two games.
8 - EOU has taken eight shots in both of its matches this season.
