FULLERTON, Calif. - Eastern Oregon University Men's Soccer suffered its third loss in a row Saturday afternoon as the team dropped a 5-1 road contest to Hope International University (Calif.). With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 0-3-0 on the year.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers were limited to just seven shots in the match while the Royals (3-0-0) posted 16 shots. HIU also had the edge in shots on goal by two, 7-5.
• Both teams were aggressive in their play as they finished with 15 fouls apiece. The Royals also had an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
• The Royals made it a 2-0 lead within a minute of each other in the near midway point of the first period. HIU scored in the 18th minute and again in the 19th minute to go ahead 2-0.
• The first goal came on a corner kick from 18 yards out. The second goal for the Royals came on a penalty kick. The score remained 2-0 until the later part of the first half when the Royals added two more goals.
• A goal in the 42nd minute gave the Royals a 3-0 lead before another goal in the 43rd minute pushed the lead to 4-0 going into the break.
• The lone goal for the Mountaineers came in the early part of the second frame. An own goal by the Royals made it a 4-1 contest in the 58th minute.
• The score remained 4-1 for the majority of the second period before a goal by HIU in the final 10 minutes of play made it a 5-1 score. A header goal off a corner kick brought the score to its final of 5-1.
