WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following seven CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Jan. 17-23, 2022.
 
Women’s Basketball – Player
Eastern Oregon University’s Sailor Liefke was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this year.
 
Liefke, a junior guard from Sunnyside, Wash., once again led EOU in scoring to help propel the Mounties to a 2-0 weekend at home. She averaged 26.0 points for the weekend, including 32 points on 12-18 shooting against Southern Oregon University. Liefke also put up 20 points against Oregon Tech on 5-10 shooting. She shot 60.7-percent for the weekend, including 56.3-percent from deep, and grabbed 13 total rebounds for the weekend as EOU took sole possession of first place in the CCC.
 
Men’s Basketball – Player
Northwest University’s CaCoa Chatman was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
 
Chatman, a junior guard from Long Beach, Calif., came up big over the weekend for the Eagles. He scored 30 points in NU’s upset victory over No. 20-ranked Lewis-Clark State College to average 20.5 points per game on the week. Chatman was on fire from three-point range, knocking down nine of 14 treys to boast a 64.3 shooting percentage from distance. He also had seven assists, five rebounds and six steals over the two games.
 
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 8-ranked Menlo College’s Riley Siason was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Siason, a junior from Salinas, Calif., led the Oaks with a second-place finish in the 125-pound bracket at the Missouri Valley Invitational. The No. 13-ranked 125-pounder opened with two major decisions before pinning No. 10-ranked Johnathan Ortegon (Wayland Baptist) in one minute, five seconds and followed with a decision over ninth-ranked CaRon Watson (Briar Cliff) to advance to the finals. Siason racked up big points for Menlo, helping the Oaks to a sixth-place finish as a team.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Madigan Kelly was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.
 
Kelly, a freshman from Lewiston, Idaho, continued to break records in the 60-meter hurdles and grabbed an automatic-qualifying time this weekend. She got better with each race, finishing the prelims with a time of 8.96 seconds before crossing in 8.92 seconds in the final to win the event. The mark is a program record and solidifies her spot at nationals. It is the 10th-fastest time in the NAIA this year and the top time in the CCC.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Maggie Ledbetter was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Ledbetter, a senior thrower from Cove, Ore., grabbed an automatic qualifier in shot put at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. Out of 30 athletes, she took third with a throw of 44-1 ½ (13.45m), which ranks seventh on the NAIA indoor list so far this season.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Clayton VanDyke was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week.
 
VanDyke, a senior from Vernal, Utah, set an LC State record in every event he was part of on Saturday at the Lauren McCuskey Memorial Open. He ran automatic-qualifying times in the 600m (1:20.30) and 1000m (2:26.23), which is the fastest time in the NAIA so far this season. VanDyke also holds the top times in the 800m and mile, set earlier this season. He bested the program record in the 600m by three seconds and was a member of the fastest 4x400m relay team in program history (3:24.27).
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Tyler Jones was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Jones, a freshman, had a stellar performance in his second ever collegiate meet. He was the highest NAIA finisher in the high jump with a mark of 6-7 ½, taking second overall at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. His mark is a B standard height for the NAIA and is 13th-highest so far.
