Rize Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Oct. 3-9, 2022.
 
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
(RV) Northwest University’s Kayla Soderstrom was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Soderstrom, a sophomore midfielder from Snohomish, Wash., helped the Eagles to a pair of victories over the weekend to move into a tie for the top spot in the CCC standings. The conference assist leader had two more assists and a goal over the two games.
 
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
No. 24-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Darby McDevitt was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
McDevitt, a junior midfielder/defender from Rathdrum, Idaho, played a key role for the Mounties in back-to-back shutouts against the University of Providence and Rocky Mountain College. She led an EOU defense that allowed just six shots on goal the entire weekend while outscoring opponents 8-to-0.
 
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
College of Idaho’s Eric Hornung was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Hornung, a freshman midfielder from Nuremberg, Germany, led the Coyotes to two wins over the weekend. He scored a goal in each game, totaling two on the weekend to push his tally to six on the year.
 
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Southern Oregon University’s Tybalt Thornberry was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Thornberry, a junior defender from Camas, Wash., helped limit Carroll College to one shot on goal in Friday's 1-0 win and had a goal and an assist in Sunday's 7-0 win over Walla Walla University. He and the Raiders have shut out four consecutive opponents for the first time since 2018.
 
Volleyball – Attacker
No. 5-ranked Corban University’s Rylee Troutman was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week for the third time this year.
 
Troutman, a sophomore outside hitter from Powell Butte, Ore., had a tremendous weekend to help the Warriors grab two wins, including their first-ever victory over a No. 1-ranked team. She had a whopping 43 kills and a .272 attacking percentage in the process. Her 24 kills against the No. 1 Mounties is a new career high for the All-American. Troutman added back-to-back double-digit digs with 12 and 16 to log her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season and tallied four service aces to help extend Corban's win streak to 12-straight. She also leads the CCC in kills and kills per set, sitting just 11 kills away from the 300 mark.
 
Volleyball – Defender
No. 1-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Kara Clayton was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Defender of the Week.
 
Clayton, a junior middle hitter from Sparks, Nev., had a huge weekend in a win over (RV) Bushnell University and a five-set loss to No. 5-ranked Corban University. She did it all tallying 25 kills, 15 blocks, nine digs and two service aces. Clayton was extremely efficient hitting .435 with just five errors.
 
Volleyball – Setter
No. 5-ranked Corban University’s Jadyn Mullen was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third time this year.
 
Mullen, a senior setter from Puyallup, Wash., recorded one of her highest two-game assist totals of the year with 61 dimes against College of Idaho and No. 1 EOU. She added 20 combined digs, highlighted with 13 on Saturday night to log a double-double in the Warriors’ upset of EOU. Mullen also had an even four service aces to bring her phenomenal weekend to a close.
 
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
Lewis-Clark State College’s Geraldin Correa was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Correa, a sophomore from Kennewick, Wash., was the top non-NCAA Division I finisher at the LC State Invitational on Saturday, leading the Warrior women in 14th place (18 minutes, 27 seconds) overall. She helped LC State to a fourth-place team finish with her career-best time in the 5k. Correa has finished in the top 15 of all three races this season.
 
Men’s Golf – Golfer
(RV) Lewis-Clark State College’s Jorgen Lie Viken was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
 
Viken, a senior from Kongsberg, Norway, had a strong tournament at the Ottawa Fall Invitational with a 1-under 215 to tie for seventh. He matched par in the first and third rounds and shot a 1-under 71 in between. Making the feat more impressive, the second round was suspended midway through due to a dust storm making play nearly impossible.
 
Women’s Golf – Golfer
(RV) Lewis-Clark State College’s Alexandra Schmidt was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
 
Schmidt, a senior from Regina, Saskatchewan, was the top LC State finisher at the Ottawa Fall Invitational with a 10-over 226. The senior helped the Warriors battle through tough weather for a fourth-place finish as a team and shot the best three-round score of her career.
