CORVALLIS, Ore. – After winning the team championship last year, Eastern Oregon University is the slight preseason favorite as the Cascade Collegiate Conference released the 2022-23 Men’s Wrestling Preseason Poll Wednesday.
The Mounties picked up four first-place votes to sit in the top spot of the coaches’ poll with 108 points. Last year, the then-ranked No. 16 Mounties shocked the conference by winning the 2022 CCC Men’s Wrestling Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, just five years after the sport was reinstated at EOU. The Mounties went on to take 13
th as a team at the NAIA Championship.
Menlo College – last year’s preseason favorite – grabbed two first-place votes and sits just four points behind EOU in second place on the preseason poll. The then-ranked No. 9 Oaks finished as the conference’s runner-up and went on to place 15
th at the national championship.
Montana State-Northern picked up the second-most first-place votes (three) and is six total points behind Menlo in third. The Lights led the CCC with a sixth-place team finish at nationals after taking third at the conference championship.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Southern Oregon University each earned a first-place vote in the poll, with the Eagles sitting in fourth with 87 points and the Raiders following in fifth with 77 points. The University of Providence followed in sixth with 70 points, while Vanguard University picked up 61 points to sit in seventh.
Corban University (39 points), Arizona Christian University (38 points) and Simpson University (33 points) filled in spots eight through 10, while Warner Pacific University rounded out the poll at No. 11 with 11 points.
