LC State Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season in Seattle

RESULTS

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Geraldin Correa had a standout race with a second-place finish at the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals Open, hosted by Seattle Pacific on Saturday. She helped the No. 22 LC State Women's Cross Country team to the third-place finish, while the No. 11 Warrior men finished second as a team with three runners in the top 15.

The races were the final tests for the Warriors ahead of the Cascade Conference Championships on Nov. 4.

"Very pleased with our results today," Head Coach Mike Collins said. "I feel it was a really nice way for us to finish out our regular season as we ramp into conference and national championships."

THE MEN
The LC State men finished second just behind NCAA DII Chico State with 56 points, seven points behind the Wildcats.

"The men's team packed together really well again today and that shows the interchangeability of all these guys," Collins explained. "When one guy has a down day, somebody else is there to back them up and they are really supportive of each other. It's going to make it very tough for me when it comes to determining our conference lineup and our national lineup, but they are a strong team and mature guys and I know they'll handle it well and be supportive of each other regardless of those decisions."

Carter Gordon led the LC State men's squad in 11th with a time of 25:34.2. Griffen Parsells was less than a second behind him in 12th (25:34.5), and Conner May was 13th (25:39.1).

Lewiston native Connor Turpin turned in a 22nd-place finish after crossing the line with a time of 26:06.3. Cooper Carlson rounded out LC's top five in 27th (26:09.5) and Brady Nelsen followed in 28th (26:11.7). Brycen Brown capped the top 30 with a time of 26:15.5.

Freshmen Kobe Wessels and Clay Shumaker placed 35th (26:31.1) and 39th (26:41.7), respectively. Brycen Kempton was 47th (26:58.5), Alexander Fry was 49th (27:02.4), Connor Alexander took 54th (27:18.6) and Tristin O'Brien placed 75th (28:09.1). Trenton Johnson (78th, 28:28.3), Jacob Adams (95th, 29:34.5), Luke Sellmann (100th, 30:06.7) and Daniel Hobbs (110th, 31:14.7) wrapped up the day for LC State.

THE WOMEN
The Warrior women finished third as a team with 69 points, behind NCAA DII Chico State and Club Northwest.

"For the women it was probably our best race of the year," Collins said. "The 6K distance makes it a little bit challenging to evaluate, but I felt our top two girls ran probably their best races since they've become Warriors and hopefully that will transfer over to the 5K distance. Our 3-6 runners also stepped up today and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform as we get to that 5K distance at conference as well."

Correa put together another strong showing with her best finish of the season. The junior crossed the line with a time of 22:48.9 to take second, and teammate Brooklyn Shell was fifth with a time of 23:03.3.

Freshmen Grace Dixon (23rd, 24:00.2), Clara Stephens (27th, 24:15.3) and Grace Tiegs (30th, 24:21.7) rounded out the top five for the Warrior women. Abigail Peightal was 34th (24:37.9) and Madison Howe crossed the line in 38th (25:24.6).

Grace McCormick placed 41st (25:35.2), Abigail Gorton was 44th (25:54.9) and HaileyAnn Johnon took 51st (26:25.1).
