CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the Rize Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Oct. 17-23, 2022.
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Rocky Mountain College’s Brynn Klinefelter was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Klinefelter, a junior forward from Great Falls, Mont., helped the Battlin’ Bears pick up two wins over the weekend. She had a hat trick in Rocky’s 5-1 victory over Multnomah University and finished the week with four shots, all of which were on frame.
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
(RV) Southern Oregon University’s Jordan Bell was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Bell, a senior defender from Redondo Beach, Calif., helped the Raiders to their sixth and seventh shutouts in eight games as SOU extended its program-record unbeaten streak to nine games. She led the Raider back line that allowed just six shots on goal over the weekend, while also getting into the attack and scoring her second career goal.
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
No. 20-ranked Warner Pacific University’s Andrew Martinez was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row and fifth time this year.
Martinez, a freshman forward from Gresham, Ore., scored four goals and two assists over the weekend to help the Knights pick up two wins and remain perfect on the year. He scored two goals against the University of Providence in the first four minutes of the game and opened the game against Rocky Mountain College with a goal in the first 30 seconds of action. Martinez leads the CCC and NAIA with 26 goals so far this season.
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Southern Oregon University’s Anthony Armenta was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Armenta, a senior goalkeeper from Happy Valley, Ore., made six saves to help SOU shut out No. 23-ranked Corban University on the road. He has turned in four consecutive clean sheets and owns a 5-0 keeper record in CCC action.
Volleyball – Attacker
No. 3-ranked Corban University’s Rylee Troutman was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week for the third-straight week and fifth time this year.
Troutman, a sophomore outside hitter from Powell Butte, Ore., continued her dominance with back-to-back 14-kill and 10-dig performances. It expanded her streak of double-doubles to three matches in a row and now has double-digit kill counts in 13-straight contests. Troutman leads the CCC with 369 kills, which is 80 more than the next attacker in the conference.
Volleyball – Defender
Southern Oregon University’s Sadie Byrd was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Defender of the Week.
Byrd, a junior middle blocker from Maple Valley, Wash., broke the SOU single-match blocks record with 13 against (RV) Bushnell University, also going for a career-high 14 kills on 21 attempts. She averaged 1.7 blocks per set over the weekend and currently ranks fourth in the CCC with 1.1 blocks per set.
Volleyball – Setter
The Evergreen State College’s Sierra Wolff was named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third time this year.
Wolff, a senior setter from Caldwell, Idaho, had another standout week, finishing with 66 assists in two matches to average 9.43 assists per set on the week. She also posted five kills, five blocks and eight digs to help the Geoducks go 2-0 on the week, including a four-set victory over (RV) Lewis-Clark State College.
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Kayla Clayton was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this year.
Clayton, a senior from Salinas, Calif., was the runner-up in a 152-person field at the NAIA Mid-States Classic, finishing the 5K in 18 minutes, 35.0 seconds. She paced the Raiders to a team win with 44 points, beating out second-place William Woods (105 points).
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 16-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Isaac Fernandez was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Fernandez, a senior from Yreka, Calif., led the Raiders to second out of 17 teams at the NAIA Mid-States Classic, just two points behind No. 7-ranked Oklahoma City. He took fourth overall with an 8K time of 25:30.9.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
College of Idaho’s Ethan Schloss was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Schloss, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., became the latest Coyote to win an individual title, shooting a final round of 67 and a 36-hole score of 137 (-3) at the Cal Maritime Invitational. His final-round score matches the third-best individual round in program history.
