Eagles End Season with Best Record

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Northwest closed the books on the women’s soccer season in the NAIA Opening Round on Thursday with a 2-1 loss at No. 16 Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles finished with the best record in school history at 17-2-2.

Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute on a goal by Grace Burke, her third of the season. That lead stood for the rest of the half.

ERAU finally broke through after a barrage of saves by Hanne Breur, getting the equalizer in the 69th minute from Paige Thompson. Kylee Bennett got the game winner three minutes later.
“This team played their hearts out today, and we are proud of them,” said NU Interim Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “Give Embry-Riddle credit as they got the job done. I felt the team battled the whole match and left everything they had on the field. Hurts to lose, but these ladies had a great season and should be proud of what they have accomplished.”
Breur fended off 12 other shots, coming up one short of a single-game school record.
The Eagles were outshot 24-4. Olivia Morris had two shots. Morris and Burke had the only NU shots on goal. Northwest’s other shot came from Kayla Soderstrom.

CCC Defensive Player of the Year Maggie Gunning was credited with a defensive save.
