CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2022 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Soccer postseason awards were announced Monday by the conference office.
No. 21-ranked Warner Pacific University’s Andrew Martinez was named both the Rize Laboratory Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, while No. 25-ranked Corban University’s Quinn McCallion grabbed the Rize Laboratory Defensive Player of the Year. WPU head coach Troy Ready was named the Coach of the Year and Walla Walla University earned the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Martinez, a freshman forward from Gresham, Ore., has had a breakout collegiate debut season, leading not just the CCC but the NAIA with 28 goals so far this year. He also has eight assists (which also leads the conference) and 11 game-winning goals – the most in both the NAIA and the CCC. Martinez has scored in every game except one for the Knights, including 10 multiple-goal games.
Ready picked up his third consecutive Coach of the Year award after leading his Knights to their second-straight CCC regular-season championship, this time outright, and the top seed in the CCC Men’s Soccer Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank. WPU heads into postseason without any losses (11-0-2) and lead the conference in multiple statistical categories, including: 66 goals (fourth in the NAIA), 3.67 goals per game, 206 shots on goal (third in the NAIA) and 46 assists (13
th in the NAIA).
McCallion, a graduate student goalkeeper from Wallingford, United Kingdom, helped the Warriors earn the third seed in the CCC tournament. He leads the conference with a 0.28 goals against average (third in the NAIA) and .875 save percentage (seventh in the NAIA). McCallion also has 14 shutouts, which leads both the CCC and the NAIA, and is second in the NAIA with 15 wins under his belt.
The regular-season champs saw eight Knights earn all-conference, with three earning spots on the first team.
