ASHLAND – William Jessup (Calif.) ended the Southern Oregon women's basketball team's home winning streak at 19 games by defeating the Raiders 59-50 in non-conference action Monday afternoon at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Twenty turnovers were too many for the 23rd-ranked Raiders (8-3 overall) to overcome, and they committed six of them while being outscored 23-13 in the fourth quarter. WJU's Natalie Moulos scored seven of her eight points in the frame and the Warriors (9-5) put their win away by shooting 12-of-14 at the free-throw line.
Kami Walk led the Raiders with 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, and Clara Robbins established a new career-high in rebounds for the second game in a row with 14 to go with three steals. Brianna Phiakhamngon scored 12, but she and the rest of the Raiders experienced shooting woes at 29 percent from the field.
Kalei Iwami scored nine, and Emma Schmerbach added six points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal off the bench.
The Warriors – who are off to a 4-1 start in the Golden State Athletic Conference and previously upset No. 14 Vanguard (Calif.) – turned SOU's giveaways into 19 points. Kayla Viera had team-highs of 15 points and nine rebounds, while Makaila Napoleon scored 14 and Makaila Glynn had 10.
The Raiders are off until resuming Cascade Conference play in Portland on Dec. 30-31 at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
