CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following two CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Nov. 28 – Dec. 4, 2022.
Men’s Basketball –Player
Warner Pacific University’s Thomas Miles was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Miles, a junior guard from Portland, Ore., averaged 26.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to help the Knights go 2-0 on the week. He scored 24 points in WPU’s 86-81 victory over Corban University, shooting 57.1-percent from the floor, and followed with a 28-point performance against Bushnell University.
Women’s Basketball –Player
Oregon Tech’s Olivia Sprague was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Sprague, a sophomore guard from Clatskanie, Ore., had a dominant weekend on the road, setting a new OIT school record by making 13-of-13 free throws at College of Idaho. She became the first player in program history to record back-to-back games of 29 points or more and the first player in 10 years to record four-straight 20-point games. Sprague converted 52-percent of her field goals, 63-percent of her three-pointers and all 19 free throws she took on the weekend. She also added four rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game.
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 13-ranked Menlo College’s Isaiah Morales was named the Rize Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Morales, a freshman 184-pound wrestler from Cathedral City, Calif., helped the Oaks grab two wins on the week. The unranked grappler picked up a 12-3 major decision over No. 25-ranked Kaden Martin from Arizona Christian University. Morales followed with another upset victory by pinning No. 13-ranked Baron Gaunt from Vanguard University.
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
No. 8-ranked University of Providence’s Ashley Gooman was named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
Gooman, a 116-pound wrestler from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, went 5-0 over the weekend at the Battle of the Rockies Open to win her weight bracket. The top-ranked 116-pound grappler accumulated one decision, three technical falls and one pin.
