CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 11 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Feb. 7-13, 2022.
Women’s Basketball – Player
No. 21-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Callie Stevens was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second week in a row and third time this year.
Stevens, a senior guard from Puyallup, Wash., helped the Warriors to three wins last week, including a hard-fought victory over Bushnell University where she tied a career-high with 30 points after scoring the first 15 LC points of the contest. Stevens scored a game-high 26 in the win over Walla Walla University, then added 16 in 24 minutes against Corban University. She averaged 24 points per game in the three wins with a .491 field goal percentage. She made 11 three-pointers and nine free throws. Stevens also had five steals in the game against Corban.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Lewis-Clark State College’s Oreon Courtney was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Courtney, a freshman guard from Corvallis, Ore., helped the Warriors to three wins last week and averaged 15.3 points and seven rebounds per game. He notched a double-double in dramatic victory over Corban with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and was efficient with a .571 field-goal percentage across the three games.
Men’s Wrestling – Wrestler
University of Providence’s Hayden Schrull was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Schrull, a redshirt-sophomore from Helena, Mont., defeated No. 6-ranked Carl Hansen of MSU-Northern to help lead the Argos to a 18-16 dual win. The 17
th-ranked 184-pound grappler grabbed a 12-6 decision victory for the upset and moves to 14-5 on the year.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Madigan Kelly was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this year.
Kelly, a freshman from Lewiston, Idaho, had a busy weekend at the Whitworth Invitational. She wrapped up the regular season with an automatic-qualifying time as a member of the 4x400m relay (3:56.67) and finished in the top five of both heats of the 60m hurdles (9.02) and was 18
th in the 60m dash (8.10).
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
College of Idaho’s Cassidy Stoddard was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Stoddard, from Nampa, Idaho, set a new school record with a clearance of 1.60m in the high jump at the Mountain State Games. She finished fourth out of 14 athletes.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Lewis-Clark State College’s Cole Olsen was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Olsen, a senior from Clearwater, Idaho, ran a program-best time in the 3000m (8:16.29), breaking the record set in 2016 by Olympian Sam Atkin. Olsen won the event by four seconds and holds the third-fastest time in the NAIA.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Adam O’Brien was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
O'Brien, a junior from Rocklin, Calif., placed fourth but matched the highest clearance at the Whitworth Invitational, improving his NAIA 'B' standing and moving up the No. 10 on the national performance list.
Softball – Pitcher
No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech’s Mckenzie Staub was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Staub, a sophomore pitcher/infielder from Hillsboro, Ore., had a career performance on Saturday, dealing five complete innings while adding a grand slam. At the plate, Staub went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. In the circle, she went 2-0 against two teams receiving votes in the national poll, allowing only five hits, three runs, with 11 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA over 12 innings pitched.
Softball – Player
No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech’s McKenna Armantrout was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Armantrout, a senior catcher from Klamath Falls, Ore., went 8-for-12 at the plate to help the Owls to a 3-1 weekend. She finished the week batting .571 with a .714 slugging percentage. Two of her hits were doubles and she finished with four runs, three RBIs and two walks.
Baseball – Pitcher
Corban University’s Zack Simon was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Simon, a junior right-handed pitcher from Las Vegas, started on the hill for the Warriors in game two on Friday. He went six innings allowing only four hits and set a single game strikeout record for Corban with 12.
Baseball – Player
Lewis-Clark State College’s Sam Linscott was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
Linscott, a sophomore outfielder from Marysville, Wash., continued his strong start to the season and raised his season batting average above .500 over the weekend. He went 7-for-11 (.636) in three wins over NCAA DIII Whitworth, with five RBIs and four stolen bases. Linscott is now 10-for-10 in stolen bases this season.
