CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2022 Cascade Collegiate Conference softball season got underway Friday.

No. 5 Southern Oregon University split with UBC
Game 1: UBC won 8-6 – Olivia Malesku went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the T-birds. Raider Riley Donovan went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Game 2: SOU won 9-1 – SOU’s Ashton Cathey went 3-for-4 with one run and four RBIs, while Cayla Williams grabbed her third win, allowing just one run. UBC’s Keona Nordquist finished 2-for-3.

No. 2 College of Idaho swept Warner Pacific University
Game 1: C of I won 8-0 – Tanner Higgins went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs for the Coyotes, while Hannah McNerney threw five strikeouts and allowed just one hit. Savannah Roddey grabbed the lone hit for the Knights.
Game 2: C of I won 8-0 – Katelyn Wilfert held down the circle for the Coyotes, striking out seven en route to a no-hitter. Offensively, Kylie Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for C of I.

No. 1 Oregon Tech swept Northwest University
Game 1: OIT won 9-1 – Kennedy Jantzi went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Owls, while Sarah Abramson struck out 10 batters, allowing just one run for her sixth win for OIT. Emily Barry went 2-for-2 and scored the lone run for the Eagles.
Game 2: OIT won 6-4 – Lexi Klum led the Owls with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate with one run and two RBIs. Three Eagles went 2-for-4 in the nightcap: Emily Barry, Kayla Stanley and Jessica Nunes.

Bushnell University swept University of Providence
Game 1: Bushnell won 4-2 – Anabel Mendez went 2-for-3 for the Beacons with two runs scored. UP’s Carter Thornton tossed seven knockouts in the loss, while Sam Hernandez went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2: Bushnell won 13-0 – Faith Wayman finished the nightcap 3-for-3 with one run and two RBIs for the Beacons. Aliyah Kelly picked up her first win in the circle for Bushnell with five strikeouts and no runs allowed. Just three Argos had hits in the game: Macy Mangold, Taylor Mathews and McKenzie Staats.
