LC State, SOU to Square Off for CCC Women’s Basketball Tournament Title

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Just two teams remain in the hunt for the 2021-22 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank. Top-seeded Lewis-Clark State College hosts second-seeded Southern Oregon University for the trophy at 7 p.m. Pacific.

As the regular-season champion, the No. 19-ranked Warriors earned the CCC's first automatic bid to the 64-team NAIA National Tournament. The Raiders lock in the second bid, even if they are the tournament runner-up.

LC State opened the tournament with eighth-seeded College of Idaho, with the visiting Coyotes giving the Warriors a run for their money. The Warriors pulled out a 61-58 victory to advance to the semifinals, despite the Coyotes shooting at a better clip. Callie Stevens led LC State with 19 points, while Sara Muehlhausen was one board shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. 
 
In the semifinals, the Warriors jumped out to a 37-26 halftime lead and cruised to a 71-53 victory to earn a spot in the title game. Callie Stevens led the Warriors with 26 points (10-for-22), while Maddie Holm posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
 
SOU – which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll – blew past seventh-seeded Northwest University in the quarterfinals. Turnovers were key in the Raiders’ 75-50 victory over the Eagles as the home team scored 17 points off turnovers to the Eagles’ one. Kami Walk led SOU with 20 points on the night to keep her team in the hunt for a tournament title.
 
The Raiders took on third-seeded Eastern Oregon University in the semifinals and led for the final 37 minutes to secure the trip to the championship game. Walk and Dominique Harding scored 15 apiece and combined for 14 in the fourth quarter to lift the Raiders 65-58 over the Mounties.
 
In the only meeting this season, LC defeated SOU 60-55. Holm led the Warriors with 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Muehlhausen grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked five shots.
