CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following seven CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from Feb. 21-27, 2022.
Women’s Basketball – Player
No. 19-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Callie Stevens was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this year.
Stevens, a sophomore guard from Puyallup, Wash., helped the Warriors advance to the title game of the CCC Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, with two stellar games. She averaged 22.5 points per game, including a 26-point performance against Bushnell University in the semifinal. She shot 44.4-percent from the floor and was 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Stevens also tallied five assists and four steals in the two games.
Men’s Basketball – Player
Southern Oregon University’s Tez Allen was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Allen, a junior guard from Carson City, Nev., helped the Raiders advance to the CCC Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank. He scored baskets on four-straight possessions in the final three minutes of SOU's 67-65 CCC quarterfinals win at Corban University and banked in a buzzer-beating three that dropped through with six-tenths of a second left for a 67-66 win over LC State in the CCC semifinals. Allen finished the week averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Women’s Wrestling – Wrestler
University of Providence’s Ira Navarro was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Wrestler of the Week.
Navarro, the 12
th-ranked wrestler in her weight class (101 pounds), cruised through the competition at the CCC Women's Wrestling Championship, presented by U.S. Bank. The Lahaina, Hawaii, native recorded two tech falls to get to the final, where she pinned No. 8-ranked Emma Baertlein to claim the 101-pound championship. Her dominance earned her the Tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler as voted on by the conference coaches.
Softball – Pitcher
Corban University’s Holly Gonzales was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Gonzales, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Fremont, Calif., helped the Warriors open conference action undefeated, picking up two wins in the circle. She tallied a career-high nine strikeouts on Saturday and followed up with six more on Sunday, allowing just three earned runs in the two games.
Softball – Player
No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Ashton Cathey named the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Cathey, a junior first baseman from Chattaroy, Wash., helped the Raiders grab three wins over UBC. She hit three home runs and batted 7-for-11 with nine RBIs to finish the week with a .636 batting average and 1.455 slugging percentage. Cathey has hit five home runs in her last six starts overall.
Baseball – Pitcher
Oregon Tech’s Patrick Arman was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Arman, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Santa Clarita, Calif., threw six innings in an Owl win at Bushnell University. He finished with 11 strikeouts and just one earned run to pick up the victory on the mound.
Baseball – Player
No. 4-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Sam Linscott was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this year.
Linscott, a senior outfielder from Marysville, Wash., had a spectacular day at the plate for LC State in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Oregon University. He launched three home runs and had nine RBIs in two games, and also legged out a triple for 2.000 slugging percentage. He went 5-for-8 on the day and had one stolen base. Linscott had one big fly in game one and two in the second contest.
