CORVALLIS, Ore. –
The following 10 CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during competition from March 14-20, 2022.
Softball – Pitcher
No. 1-ranked Sarah Abramson was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.
Abramson, a senior pitcher from Milwaukie, Ore., was dominant in the circle in the Owls’ four-game sweep of No. 3-ranked College of Idaho. She struck out 11 batters in a two-hit shutout in game one, picked up the win in relief (her school-record 80th career win) in game two, and blanked the Coyotes for a second time in game three of the series, tossing a three-hitter. Abramson also has a CCC-leading 16 wins on the season.
Softball – Player
No. 1-ranked Jayce Seavert was named the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week.
Seavert, a freshman second baseman from La Grande, Ore., helped the Owls sweep No. 3-ranked College of Idaho, hitting .556 over the four games. She recorded a triple, two home runs and 10 RBIs, finishing the weekend with a 1.444 slugging percentage. Seavert was a perfect 4-for-4, including three extra base hits in Saturday's DH sweep.
Baseball – Pitcher
Oregon Tech’s Patrick Arman was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year.
Arman, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Santa Clarita, Calif., had a dominant effort in the Hustlin’ Owls’ game two win over Eastern Oregon University. He tossed eight innings of two-hit shutout ball and struck out seven batters.
Baseball – Player
No. 3-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Aidan Nagle was named the WVT Laboratory Baseball Player of the Week.
Nagle, a senior outfielder from Santa Rosa, Calif., helped the Warriors power NCAA Division II Central Washington in a midweek doubleheader on Thursday. He totaled five hits, including an impressive 4-for-5 performance in game two that featured a pair of home runs and seven RBIs. Nagle scored six runs and had a double in each contest. He slugged 1.625 with a .700 on-base percentage and .625 batting average between the two games.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
College of Idaho’s Sage Martin was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Martin, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, took home first place in the 3,000m steeplechase as she set a new personal record at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Classic. She crossed the line in an NAIA "A" qualifying time of 11:00.08, which was 35 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Southern Oregon University’s Abi Stevens was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Stevens, a freshman from West Allis, Wisc., recorded the top high-jump mark in the NAIA, clearing 5-7 3/4 for the No. 2 mark in school history and the best in 32 years. She took second out of 16 athletes and grabbed an NAIA automatic qualifying mark.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete
Multnomah University’s Daniel Dixon was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Dixon, a freshman from Dallas, won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Lewis and Clark Spring Break Classic. He crossed the finish line in the 100m in 11.06 seconds to beat out 17 other athletes and posted a time of 22.64 seconds in the 200m to take first out of 20 athletes.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete
Eastern Oregon University’s Darrian Walker was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Walker, a senior from Emmett, Idaho, highlighted the day for EOU in its first outdoor meet of 2022. He not only won the pole vault, but hit an NAIA "A" qualifying standard to punch his ticket to Nationals, clearing the bar at a height of 15-9 ¼ for the win. Walker’s mark was well ahead of second by over a foot and is now the top mark in the NAIA following the weekend and ranks fifth all-time in EOU history for the outdoor season.
Women’s Golf – Golfer
Lewis-Clark State College’s Deana Caruso was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Caruso, a junior from Pomeroy, Wash., moved up five spots the second day to a tie for seventh at the RMC Intercollegiate at the Reflections Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. She led LC State to a fourth-place finish in a stacked NAIA field with rounds of 83 and 81. Caruso had eight pars and one birdie in the final round.
Men’s Golf – Golfer
Lewis-Clark State College’s Kristof Panke was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Panke, a freshman from Davenport, Wash., led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish in a stacked field at the RMC Intercollegiate at the Reflections Bay Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. He matched par on day two to finish the two-round tournament with a 1-over-par 145 and tie for fifth out of 65 golfers.
